OM, I've become a Zuikoholic!

As I feared then.. Other cameras with mercury batts i had, was easy to fix by turning the ASA to compensate for the higher current, but I've never experienced bouncy needle before.

Was hoping that the OM would be a good camera on the cheap, but with this, I've replaced almost every single component, short of the shutter mechanism.
Scratched matte screen, rotten prism, crumbled light seals, bumpy grip and now a faulty meter..

That's the problem with old cameras: there's a point where I don't think it's worth trying to resurrect them. Even so, an OM-1 in excellent condition wouldn't be hard to find and wouldn't be very expensive either if you wanted to persevere with the system.

My OM1 light meter is bouncing all over the place, but mostly rests in the bottom position, as if the whole world has gone dark.

Would the battery adapter thing help with this, or should I just get better at estimating light?

My advice (entirely based on personal experience, feel free to ignore or heed):

Take out the battery, glue the battery cover to the base, and forget it. OM-1 is a *very* enjoyable fully manual, meter-less camera. Use Sunny-16 or get a small handheld meter and go shoot.

If you want an OM body with an excellent meter, look for OM-2n. OM-1 is a poor choice for reasons you've discovered.

Just got some holiday snaps back. All with an OM-4ti, a 50/1.8 MIJ and a 135/2.8 on Ektar.

Nice results! I like the 1st one especially. The light bouncing off of the table illuminating the girls face is very good use of natural light. Thanks for posting.

First roll developed!

All the problems aside, it's great fun to use, and I'm surprised about the lack of blur in slow shutter speeds.

I thought you guys might like to know that someone in Hong Kong is putting his M1 kit up for sale (M1 body plus 5X M-Zuiko lenses). The kit costs around US$1,850.

While I am a huge OM fan, I have never understood the collector's obsession with the M-1. It's the oldest version of what became the OM-1 (missing the many small incremental improvements of later versions), no motor drive capacity, oldest Zuiko 50mm 1.8, all for more than 10X the price of an overhauled OM-1 and lens. Sure, it's rare, but it's basically an old, inferior version of an OM-1.

It's been a while since I added anything to this thread… this whole forum really, but last weekend I took the OM-2n out for a Cuban Rum, Cigar and pipe night and was reminded why I love this camera, and rate it up there with my M2

This was a both a test with the 50/1.4 and a test to see how well (or not) ilfosol 3 pushes as it has a lot of negative press online when it comes to higher speeds. the grain is a little harsh for 1 stop (HP5+ pushed to 800) but i'm happy with both!

I love these images John, so easy and relaxed! and the lens has really shone through i think!

Thanks. I'm really happy with the feel. I got given a couple of rolls of expired Delta 400, so my attitude was very much, easy come, easy go. I just fired away with the light from the kitchen window and F2. It was also a personal challenge as my brother didn't think I could keep up with the boy and manual focus :)

Nice pics John. Morning Light through the kitchen window is pure gold.

Here's a little update from another Zuikoholic. Bought a new leather mini skirt for my Oly OM2n. Arrived in the mail today. Looks pretty nice!
50 f1.4 is my choice lens. Yep that's a genuine metal hood which I got with the lens. IMO it's about as pretty as SLR's ever got!

SLR's never got much prettier than this ... makes a Nikon from the same era look like an industrial exercise! :D

I like the case. :)
