The best camera is one that still works!
nerd mode off, keith those are nice shots, amazing how the 50 1.2 sharpens up at f2, btw does the 50 1.2 has an intermediate step between f1.2 and f2 or does it jump directly to f2 just like my 55?..
Same as the 55mm maitani ... it's an amazing lens and I hadn't realised how sharp it was at f2 before because I'd never been there!

I am considering the jump into OM land.
Lens: pretty settled on the 50/1.8 as it seems rather well regarded.
Body: I really like the OM-1, but I am concerned about the 1.35v...
Should I leap over to the OM-2 (keeping the big VF) or source an OM-1 that has been converted/adapted to 1.5v?
Thanks!

The joy of an OM1 is its simplicity and fully mechanical operation.
The meter issue can be solved in several ways.
1) get the hearing aid batteries. They work but don't last more than a few months. Simple, cheap.
2) get a CR1/MR9 adapter. They cost probably more than the OM1 itself but are easy to use and you don't have to modify anything.
3) get it modified internally. This is cheap if you can do it yourself but pricey if done professionally. (worth it either way)
4) just stick a 1.5 volt battery in there and compensate for the high reading. (typically 1 stop, but not consistent)
5) use an external light meter or iphone
6) go without meter and just use the Sunny-16 rule. Pretty easy and surprisingly accurate with some practice.
7) use OM2 instead

If you really like the OM-1, read up on the production variations, find a clean one and send it to John Hermanson at http://www.zuiko.com/ for an overhaul and conversion to modern battery. You'll then have a great camera that will likely outlive you.

I hate this site. I really, really do.
I have to do something radical to get my IP banned, because you all have just made me buy not just another camera per se, but a whole new system!
Chrome OM-1 and 50/1.8 on the way from the classifieds here. :bang:

I think this thread on it's own is fast turning into one of the best OM resources on the web!

Nice kit. I've got one of the Series-1 70-210mm Vivitars. Mine is the same variant as yours (Kiron made?). I have loved it for over 20 years.

Thanks! The only items originally described and displayed was the camera, 50mm and 70-210mm lens. When I'd opened the box, I was pleasantly surprised! Whoever owned it before, took great care of everything.nice grab ...
