OM, I've become a Zuikoholic!

I am an idiot. I always read that the Zuiko 35/2.0 was not good so I never sought one out. Their prices were always low - I think due to that reputation.

Now that I see they are fine lenses it is too late as the prices have gone sky high.

It is even hard to find a 35/2.8 for a good price anymore.

it's still affordable, so hurry up. i too came up all the b**** written about this lens, but bought it cheap anyway and didn't regret it for a second

I've succumb to the OM addiction. I couldn't help myself, last friday I ordered an EX condition OM-2n and 50mm f/1.4 from KEH and I couldn't be happier. This camera feels much better built than my A-1 and AE-1, and the thing that really sold me was the brass construction and black paint. My A-1 is a black model, but unfortunately when it rubs through the brass the plastic begins to show, which just looks ugly. I'm so happy this is solid construction. Here's a shot of it taken on my other new camera, the iPhone 5 :) I'm so happy with that camera as well, and soon it may be the only digital body I own!

It's a beauty! welcome to the asylum.

I shot a roll of Elitechrome slides in Las Vegas just last weekend with that exact same setup. I pick them up today.

Ooooh, aaaah, nice 1.1+ million 50/1.4, nice body too.

Has the foam been removed from the prism? Light seals on back door replaced?

I believe the foam has been replaced everywhere. I wasn't aware of any in the prism though.

What does 1.1+ million 50/1.4 mean? Is this a particularly good lens?

Does anyone remember where I can find that old article where they put an OM through hell and back to test its reliability with dust/water?

There are people that think the 1.1 million and above 50/1.4's are made from magic minerals and are 1.1 million times better than the lesser 50/1.4's

You are in the lucky club.

(but then there are also people that will pay double for an OM-4TI than an OM-4T :D )

Gary Reese demonstrated that several later lenses tended to be better IN HIS TESTS.

not every 1.1+ 50/1.4 is better than every silvernose 50/1.4; I know this from my own personal experience. still if I were buying one I would go later because it gives you a better chance of getting a lens that is usable wide open. yes, the optical formula as well as the coatings are different.

at any rate even a soft 50/1.4 will let you make nice pictures if you stop it down a bit

Having been busy over in the digital world ... I set foot back in this thread just this morning after ~2 months absence from it and my OM gear.

1/2 hour later and I have a black OM-1 MD on the way! :bang:

That makes for an OM-1 in chrome, OM-1 MD in chrome and black, and an OM-2 N in black! I am done!

Likely selling the chromes...

I don't think there is foam to replace IN the prism. However there are two little squares at the top of the lens opening to dampen the mirror as it swings closed when you release the shutter. These are worth replacing if they are missing or removed so that the mirror slap doesn't cause (or at least causes less) camera shake.

Cheers,
Rob

Under the top plate and around the prism, on most OM2[n] and OM1[n] bodies (unless they are bodies from two specific serial number windows) is foam that disintegrates over time, and if not removed, will etch the prism. It's a 100% predictable time bomb. Trust me - I had it happen to a Mint OM1.

Get rid of the prism foam. You can DIY (there are online instructions) or have a repair person do it.

Roland.

The 50/3.5 arrived today, unfortunately the back element is bad so I'm returning it.

That's a beauty of an OM-2N. And a pretty impressive image with the iPhone 5, I must say.
