There's a lot of love here for the single digit bodies. I recently purchased an OM-40 for $25.
I definitely like the handling of the OM-40. I took it on vacation for two weeks. I'm looking forward to seeing the results.
Anyone else using the consumer grade OMs?
I have the OM-PC/40. I love the ESP metering for slide film. Never get a bad exposure.
I prefer Auto mode to the Program mode. It suits me better.
I also have OM-10's and gave away my OM-G.
I love the consumer grade OM's. They are great and reliable. Typically lightly used and low priced.

Has anyone heard from John Hermanson in a while? I emailed him a couple times last week before I realized that he lived in an area Hurricane Sandy went through. I hope he's okay!

I sent him an email last week and have not heard back, yet.
There are still a lot of power outages on Long Island, and around Huntington, but I have no information on whether or not he is still without power. [http://www.lipower.org/stormcenter/outagemap.html]
I sure do hope he and his neighbors get through all this safely and securely.

Question, does anyone know of a good tutorial on removing the top plate of an OM-1 ? I suspect mine has the rotting foam issue and want to get a handle on it soon.
Shot on Kodak Gold 100, Dwaynes Photo scan, probably used the 50 f1.8...

Thank you! I have been to this website before but never saw this page about removing the top plate.

If I ever load up five cameras again to do side-by-side comparison shots with them, it will NOT be 36 exposure rolls. That's too many frames to do in a reasonable amount of time.
Today, after a few more identical shots with the 5 OM cameras, I just took each of them out one at a time and took the 5 or 6 remaining frames on each roll. Tomorrow I develop the 5 rolls: one at N-1, one at N-2, one at N, one at N+1 and one at N+2. The end of this project is near! It started in July.

I received an email from John this morning (Monday, November 12, 2012).
The power is back on, after 12 days without since hurricane Sandy.

He said he was "playing catchup" after the power outage, so I assume so. It was a short email.
On a related note, I see on the news that Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) has some very unhappy customers because of the delay getting power restored. Some customers are still without power, 14 days later. I would be angry, too.

Man, my OMs would be soooo jealous if they found out.
Best not to tell them.

It looks like John Hermanson is back up and running. I'd sent him my 50mm F1.2 for an overhaul a week or so before Sandy struck and he has now emailed me an estimate for the work - most encouraging (and good value too!)

You guys have done it!
You guys have done it!
I just want to thank you guys. You have caused a major GAS attack, and now I have switched my photography gear over to film! This thread was a major influence for me on which system to choose; needless to say I went with an OM.
So now I am using an OM-4 with a 50mm f/1.4 and trying a few different films. Right now I'm loving Arista Premium 400; but I am going to try more. The goal is to be at least somewhat economical
.
Below is a shot of my beautiful wife from the first roll of film I have ever developed (!), shot on my new (to me) OM-4. The developer was Xtol. I looked on eBay for quite a while to find a SN >1.1M, and I'm pretty impressed with the results. The only post-processing I did was levels, curves, and dust removal. I am pretty sure no USM for this one.
I am hooked.

We are an evil bunch. Welcome to the asylum.
Great Choices. Great Results. Lovely Model/Wife!

Welcome to "Hotel California".
If you've never tried it, go and grab a roll of slide film (transparency, E-6, whatever you want to call it). I initially bought Neopan for my OM-1, but I've been shooting mostly Velvia and Provia, with some Kodak Elitechrome Extra Color thrown in there too!

I have several OMs but it is my OM4-Ti that gives me the biggest headaches. Now it is suffering from the dreaded stuck shutter. Just won't fire. It has fresh batteries, etc. The "R" button is stuck downward, too; not popping back up.

First of all, did you reset the camera after putting in the new batteries by turning the shutter speed ring to B? If you still have the problem of the camera locking up when fired, I had an OM-4T that would lockup with fresh batteries, with the battery check showing little or no battery power. Spoke with John Hermanson of Camtech who suggested gently tightening the philips head screws on the baseplate and cleaning the threads of the battery cap and the threads of the battery compartment (make sure not to use a black painted battery cap). Those threads were dirtier than I would have expected, leaving distinct black marks on a white cloth. Proper camera function restored.

Have to say, the examples of Kodachrome shot with Zuikos do give impressive colours. Shame it's gone
