OM, I've become a Zuikoholic!

Olympus OM-2n with the Zuiko 35 f/2. Kodak Tmax 400 in HC-110

A quick questions about batteries for my OM4Ti.

I can no longer locally buy my usual SR44 1.5v batteries, but I can get either a SR44w 1.55v or the Lithium LR44.

Will either of these work as well and not affect metering accuracy? I seem to remember reading once that the Lithiums are best avoided. I want to get on and use my first roll of the new Ektachrome!

I think the SR44 and the LR44 predate Lithium batteries. The LR44 is alkaline and the SR is silver oxide, I think. Anyway, my understanding is that the SR battery maintains its voltage until near exhaustion but the LR voltage tends to drop as it becomes exhausted. The meter is calibrated for full voltage so for this reason the SR batteries are preferred. They can easily be obtained online.

Sorry for the double posting. I don't think there is any difference between SR44 and SR44w or batteries with any other letter after the '44'. I think its more of a marketing exercise. The main difference is alkaline vs. silver oxide.
 
Is that the one that a certain very nice shop in Folkestone had on sale?
It should be in great condition.
Operation is the same as any OM-1. The meter had a system that would deflect the needle sharply when out of range. I've never seem that on mine, but mine has had 2 CLA and I am betting in one of them they replaced the meter board.

Thanks for that Ricardo. You guessed right, my M1 came from the 'very nice shop in Folkstone' 🙂
The only visible wear/damage is the usual cracked flash shoe, but as I don't use flash that won't be a problem.
Just got to keep an eye out for a M-SYSTEM 50/1.4 now, as the finder gets rather dark with the supplied 28/3.5.
It'snice to go 'compact' with the M/OM's after hauling around the F6 / 24-70 combo! 😎

I have the 1.8 and the 1.4 and find the 1.8 much sharper and also smaller.
 
I recently picked up a copy of the Olympus OM Zuiko 100mm f2.8 in very nice - almost mint , condition. Does anyone have any experience of this lens? It seems to have a good reputation. It is most certainly both small and light. I also noticed that some of the lenses for the Pen F system seem well regarded. Any suggestions (I was thinking of picking up the little 100mm f3.5 for that system, having a fetish for that focal length). Any opinions able to be offered???
 
I have the 85mm f2 and the 100mm f2.8 OM Zuikos Peter, and I have a memory of reading somewhere that the 100mm is slightly sharper. I’ve used the 80mm a bit more for the f2 aperture but they are great lenses. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it with your signature style!

Thanks for that Fraser, I'll give my OM 50/1.8 and 1.4 a try when I've got over my latest medical probs and can get out in some nice weather. I'm not too worried about the size/weight difference of the 1.8 'n 1.4 after hauling around the F6 24/70 combo, let alone the F4s!! I have to keep checking that I haven't dropped anything due to the lack of weight on my shoulder 🙂

I recommend the 50/1.8 as well. My M-SYSTEM 50mm is very good and small.
 
Has anyone heard from John Hermanson of zuiko.com recently?

In mid December I sent my zuiko 28 f2 to John as per the instructions on his website. I created a label which had my name, contact info and a description of what was wrong with the lens. This label was to go in the box. I filled out the paperwork which included my return address.

On my return from the post office digging around my camera bag I find this fancy label..... (not my smartest moment)


To explain why he would get a box with no contact info I emailed a John at the email address on his website (dec 15). I sent a follow up on Dec 24. I have not had a response from John yet.

I understand that the holidays are busy. I would just like confirmation that he did receive the lens, tracking indicates that it was left at or near mailbox and that he knows that the lens is mine.

This is my first time dealing with John, he has a great reputation and has glowing reviews on many of the forums that I browse. Is this lack of communication normal? Does anyone have an alternate method of reaching him?

Hi Peter, I'm not sure if my reply is any good after a while but the OM Zuiko 100/2.8 is a very practical focal length for me and wide open I find it rather sharp in detail although just a touch lower contrast wide open but that is no problem. The out of focus areas are really smooth for it's type and the angle of view very practical. The colour is consistent like all Zuiko's and the contrast is good to excellent from f4. The best thing is the size. It is a small and light lens. Practical and easy to carry. A joy to use. I prefer the later multi-coated versions because they tend to work best on digital I find, like my Sony a7. Sharpness is plenty good, I cannot see how one cannot acquire a sharp image with it. Even wide open, slight increase in contrast in Photoshop or what ever is not an issue. It does not render like an 85/2 or Sonnar type, if you want a Sonnar - well, you know who you are but this is one of the best little telephoto lenses out there. If used on digital, the contrast is just right even wide open.
