What digital camera are they shot on? My summarit 50 1.5 was the same on my X-T3. Great on film though.

It is an old Canon 10D. Summarit should be the same too - too wide apertures, no asperical elements, small lens barrels, all contribute to higher amount of aberrations. Even modern lenses like the EOS EF 50f/1.4 or the AF Nikkor 50 f/1.4 are quite similar (and actually the Zuiko is a smaller lens, the summarit i would imagine is even smaller).

I've got a 1.1mil+ serial MC one, and while I need to shoot with it a bit more, your silver nose looks sharper to me.

Many people open these lenses to clean any oil on the aperture mechanism or blades and they don't necessary put them correctly back. The slightest mis-alignment will show on the pictures.
Mine wasn't so sharp until i sent it to Luton Cameras for a CLA. It had a spot of fungus in there which cleared well (there is stil a tiny bit there where it has iched the coating but it is dead). But was collimated properly and that made the difference.

How much was the lens CLA if you don't mind me asking?
I always over pay on used camera equipment and get the best condition items I can but always good to know.

Very in-expensive Pan, I would have thought double that to be honest, the hourly rate like it is.

Had my OM4 for a few months now - first OM camera in about 10 years. Still my favourite SLRs. The lenses are much lower contrast than what I've been using on my leica, but they have their own charm that's pretty endearing. I'm gonna need a black om1 and some more Zuiko's soon :angel:

Thanks Pan, I'm starting to get used to it now - I'm usually a 35 shooter so there's been a learning curve for using the 50 effectively. In the future I'm going to get an older silver nose copy to do a comparison for a bit of fun.

Not sure if it was just my copy of the 1.4 but ended up selling it and keeping the 1.8 as it seemed so much better, need to try a made in japan 50 as mine is the original type.

I had a MIJ 50mm f1.8 10 years ago and distinctly remember it was quite sharp with little to no spherical aberration (glow) even wide open. My f1.4 has quite a lot at f1.4, and a little bit at f2. I also remember the f1.8 lens having fairly harsh bokeh, especially stopped down, and a bit of barrel distortion.
edit: Something else I noticed about my f1.4 50mm is that it actually has quite high resolution wide open all the way to the edges (within the plane of focus). Noticeably more even spread of resolving power than other same-era 50's I've used.
