I have a few OM1 bodies in excellent condition which show pentaprism damage from the foam above the penta prism. Is there anybody our there who refurbishes the pentaprisms?

Hi,

The prisms in the OM10's fit the OM-1 and don't have the foam problem. Most repairers can sort it out. But don't ruin a working OM10 to get the prism.

Plus new prisms often turn up on ebay.

I agree with David that it would be a sin to kill a perfectly good OM just for its prism. There are plenty of broken ones around.

The pentaprisms from all the models, OM-1 through the OM-40/PC are interchangeable. So any of those can serve as a donor. (I don't know about the OM-77 and 101 and other weird models)

Also I have had a couple where the green grunge was just beginning and after light cleaning of the affected area, a touch of black paint or magic marker helps even more than just scraping away the corrosion.

Try the cleaning and touch up before replacing a prism.

Removing the top cover is not always as easy as they say on the web. I have found that the cap screw on the rewind lever can actually melt to the plastic spacer underneath and be almost impossible to remove without damaging it.

I'm going to try some penetrating oil on my non-MD OM-1 and see if that works. I don't want to scratch that one.

Hi, just to get a little off topic if you guy's don't mind, but are the back covers
interchangeable with one another, om2n to a om4?

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for the back-up; we must keep the OM10's going even though the OM-1's etc overshadow them but they are part of the system and take those lovely lenses.

BTW, the OM101 isn't so weird once you've played with one and adjusted the brain slightly. And, like the OM10, they come dirt cheap.

The OM-10s have so many problems, they're not worth fixing (especially oil on the magnet and plastic main shutter gear). When I get a donated 10, I salvage prism, a few small parts from the bottom and chuck the rest. NO others parts are useable in the OM-1 through 2N. John
