Now my OM2-SP suddenly fail me yesterday. Mirror refused to return, I though battery was dead, which it was. But when new battery is fitted and checked it still refused to work. And I cant open the bloody base plate to trigger it by hand. The screws are too tight. Is there a way to unjam it externally ?

Can you depress the shutter button or is that jammed as well?

On the regular om-2 if you push the auto/manual/off lever up (towards the lens) it resets the mirror.

You need to reset the ONM-2 afetr changeing batteries.
Press the tiny button on the bottom corner of the mirror box and turn the shutter speed to B. The camera should come back to life.

I took a gamble on my OM2SP and got it cheap, mirror was locked, even with new batts. I thought I may as well try it on the mechanical settings (60th and "B") and hey presto - good as new

Err I did the B and 1/60 thing, but both the shutter and the wind lever are jammed. It wont check battery now at all ? When I fitted new battery the check work, but now it's silent. Is it officially dead ?

I ran into this problem today - loaded Ilford SFX, and shutter jammed.
I didn't know what to do, and took spare OM10 body instead OM2 to the trip.
When I returned , I checked Google and found the solution. Batteries are new, so they are not the problem .

I have kind of a similar problem.
I just bought an OM-4 Ti on the bay and it's a very nice camera.
Out of the box it seemed to be working just fine, I replaced the seals and loaded a roll, everything was working great until the camera started behaving strange.
Sometimes I had to wind it twice or even more to be able to depress the shutter button and fire the shutter.
After a while a noticed I could get around the problem by making sure the wind lever really went all the way on the first wind.
So I loaded the next roll and took two or three shots and then it all just got stuck.
The wind lever won’t move because the shutter is already cocked and the shutter button won’t go anywhere.
I have tried fresh batteries, the mechanical speeds, taking batteries out over night, I even took off the bottom plate and tried to trip the shutter from there.
Nothing helped a bit
Any ideas?

Check out http://www.zuiko.com for repair. John Hermannson runs the place, and is an excellent Olympus technician. $116 (I think) will fix any problem, as well as give your camera an overhaul that will make it 'good as new' in all respects.Err I did the B and 1/60 thing, but both the shutter and the wind lever are jammed. I did that with my OM-1n and can highly recommend the service. My only complaint is the turn-around time, but remember, patience is a virtue!

Hans: Glad to hear you worked things out.
Galfriend's OM-2SP had a similar malady several years back. It seems that the OM-2 SP's shutter "strings" can get a bit more messed-up than other "single-digit" OMs (my ancient OM-2n has never had this problem). Still a great camera, though!
