Heh,

Something stupid and a little clever. I have a Mamiya Universal.

4-5 Months in on my "1 Cam 1 Lens Chal." I am conceding.

I have been wanting bigger neg/positives in my life and I cannot ignore it any longer.

So I guess I am 2 cam 2 lens. Small neg Big neg. Seems logical.


Its a beater so the camera will be a project all its own.
Any thoughts to share on the system?
Words of warning?

Details:
Chrome body (leatherette not "M")
Grip (very worn)
127mm (needs some help)

I am looking to grab a spare body or something as I do not have the M or G back plates nor a proper film back. The price was way good so im ready to build it up low and slow (kinda broke these days)

If you place the cam flat on the ground enough times the cable release might break. Mine did eventually. It's better to lay it flat on the back.

I have the Super 23 and have two lenses: 100mm and 65mm. They both are great lenses, but I don't know all their functionality with the Universal. So if you get a second lens be sure it will work on the Universal. I had mine out today: focus, wind, set shutter, set f stop, remove dark slide, and have a meter. It is a heavy rig and not for the rapid fire types.

I re-did the seals on my backs with a kit from someone in Japan. They fit and were relatively easy to install. One of my backs didn't work at first but I was able to fix it by bending a small metal part.

Besides the weight the biggest problem is remembering the list of things to do before shooting that I listed above.

23 and Universal are fully compatible with each other with the exception of two things.

Polaroid Back (Universal only)
Graflok compatibility (Universal only)

The lenses all work fine amongst each other. (Pure research)

Polaroid 600SE lenses are not compatible.

Cleaning your VF

Unfortunately I need to clean it. Haha.

Got the 127mm (P) firing on all speeds but it’s gonna require a fair bit of cleaning as well. The release has lost its pep and doesn’t seem to return as it should.

My Mamiya Super 23 is a pain to maintain and it is bulky, heavy, slow to use; I usually forget to advance the film frame, pull the dark slide (or put it in when I change lenses) for at least one frame on a roll, but it is the camera that gives me my best negatives. I have all kinds of cameras; the Super 23 and my Olympus 35RC are my two favorite users.
