OMG - It's That Time of the Year!!!

Ya, it's only ten bucks. However, if you want them do figure your state form it costs about twenty bucks more. What have I got to lose, thought I, and went for it. $137 refund on the state form. There's a new Bessa and a lens right there.

Taxes done...
Uncle Sugar is going to want another $2,500 or so out of my hide in the next 30 days.
Ain't that grand?

Two and a half times grand, Steve.
I used to do my own with tax help books and computer software. I quit 5 years ago and now have a C.P.A. do it for me. It's less stressful and for that reason it's worth the $150 I pay for his services.

This is probably a good idea. Would an accountant insist I keep records, or would he just let me guess...like I do now? 😉

BTW R.J. I'm having fun with that Koni-Omega. Just tackling the filter problem now.

there is a way to write off all of your photo equipment and materials purchases. You call yourself an artist/(your profession here) on the forms and file a schedule C. However you will eventually have to show a bit of a profit.

btw-where's all the insults in here? i thought i was treading into the dark underground of RFF??

"screw that unkle sam and his historically unprecedented debt ceiling i say"!

cheers,
steven

Screw people that say screw people! That's what I say!

Hmmmm...not really all that liberating.

I did think of declaring a photo business. I've got a web presence and I'm setting up to sell. I wonder how long I can operate at a loss? :bang:

I used to do that, but unless you're making a LOT of money, it's more hassle than it's worth.
And Steven's right. Eventually you have to show a profit, something like within three years, or they knock on your door and beat you with truncheons.

Two years out of five. During the other three you have to show a profit, Steve.

In any case, it is certainly an audit flag...home based business.

A C.P.A. can tell you if it's reasonable or not. You have every right to start a business and write off the expenses related to that business. Just my 2¢ worth.

BTW, I'm getting ready to upload some pix showing how to remove the retaining ring in your 90mm so you can use 49mm filters instead of Series VI. 😀

So this is where it went - guess we need to get used to "interventionist" moderators relocating threads.

That said - you've all been reported to the folks who provide and protect the public fisc!
