Well, nothing speical or scared here, just an old beat up Non-Leica Generic case for $50!

I had an ORIGINAL 1930's one for sale that was truly near mint last year for $35 and no one wanted it ~ sigh!

Well, if anyone sees anything Leica that sold for a nutty price at that auction site, please add it here just for fun 😉

I had a big-snout wartime black Leica IIIc case for sale here for a while. Completely original, no polishing, sheep felt innards, original strap and buckle.

Nobody took it. Sold it in a kit with a wartime FED-S and two lenses eventually on eBay.

I guess nobody's that interested in cases. Save for these bidders there...

I'm used to buying these cases for $5 at Photorama shows. Bought enough of them for all my Barnack Leica's, the Nicca, and Leotax.

I picked up the weird one with the upper section for the finder left in place, $20.

Easy to see what was going on -- two inexperienced bidders. Feedback counts of 24 and 0, respectively.

Normally, that zero FB bidder would make me very suspicious. As in, that's a throwaway account for the seller bidding on his own item. But "yukongoldfinger" (gotta love that one, let's call him "Spud") doesn't seem to need that. Solid record of positive, photography-related FB at a good mix of price levels.

"Spud" started this out at $4.74 and got lucky.

Back to the OP: How's this one for a crazy price?

We've been discussing it over in 120 Folders. $610 for a Bessa 66 with Skopar, listed under "Light Meters/Other," no less.

You didn`t write me.....A "Big Nose" WW2 case, I would have paid $50 to $75 for that easy!

Well, I buy cases from the following groups; ~ all have the 3/8 (large) screw

Black Case ~ Flat Nose/ 1/4 nose / Long Nose ~ with Grey felt , Beige Felt or No felt

Brown Case ~ Flat Nose/ 1/4 nose/ Long Nose ~ with Black felt only

Grey Case ~ Black Case/Painted Grey ~ any

They are from the 1940 to 1947 era

I'm looking for any Long Nose cases that fall into those described above, the only one's I have and use now are LNYC the Leitz New York Long Nose cases for the Summarit cameras (ca. 1950/52)
*fantasic cases* ~
They have the small screw and I have to use a oversize ring to put my IIIC K's into the case.

Why do folks get so indignant with people asking lots of money for things? - and announce it here with little heads banging on walls ( :bang: ) ?. If the seller can get someone to pay a ridiculously high price for some old item - he has my admiration!.

Well - the case had four bidders - and a winner at $50....can't have been too bad! 😉

Four bids, only two bidders, actually. Just a classic situation, common sense disengages as ego takes over.

So, after almost derailing this thread into Voigtländer territory earlier, may I ask another OT question: So, what is a realistic price for a tattered generic III case? I suddenly find myself in need of one. KEH has them starting at a buck, is that for real? No photos, of course.

Good Leica IIIC/IIIF cases are $20 to $30 ~ the whole deal about this post in the first place is that case was a generic (possibly Russian) and even missing the screw, (a $5 case) and they got $50 for it!......just pretty crazy that's all.

My beautiful near mint Leica III case I ended up trading for like $30 worth of filters 🙂

This was quite the surprise with price.....a "defaced" 1945 US Army Leica IIIC

Nasty dremel tool Army Service Number and it still made nearly $600 ~ (if this made that price, what are my near mint one's worth now?) 🙂

I would have figured in with this at $350/$375 as a good "shooter" camera, it was all matching numbers and had documents from the first owner, I have added this to my "survivor" list.

Seems the prices of these cameras are up, and even broken ones are reaching $400+ numbers, so I guess it's about time that these cameras now are coming of age, in the collectors world ~ the next one's in the running are the *early* pre #410xxx series 1946 "Flat Tops" they are getting more and more harder to find and almost impossible in minty condition, and with the great WW2 era style Summitar optics and the "wartime" Black leather case issued, they make a really great looking camera.

I miss my mint #402xxx rig I sold like 4 years ago ~ I got $500 for it then, so I wonder what it would bring now?
