While there are plenty of overseas printers such as Blurb and etc... is there any good local, Australian, printers. I am planning to publish several books over the next 18 months and I would like to work with a local printer if possible.
The downside is that unlike one of the internationals like Blurb or LuLu, there is less audience for sales with a local printer.
Anyone down here have any thoughts or experience at this? I would appreciate any advice or opinions that anyone has to offer.

I haven't used any of these myself, so I can't personally vouch for the quality, but I've heard that they're all reasonably good.

Big W are meant to be cheap but very tacky.
Hope that helps.

I've used Digital DaVinci in Adelaide to print a couple I created in iPhoto, and also used Apple's iPhoto publishing service which is now available in Australia. Apple are about half the cost of Digital DaVinci and the quality is about the same. Neither is fine art print quality but acceptable for general use. They work off pdf files and print at about 150 dpi.
My cousin Graham owns a fair sized printing business in Balgowlah (he's also a keen cyclist) and he used to operate a business as a print broker. I know he does some pretty upmarket stuff for the ABC and other clients so maybe it would be worth talking to him? If you want I can give you his contact details or you can just look up <www.fingerprinting.com.au> and tell him how you found him.

I 've used iphoto and the result was very pleasing. In fact some subtle changes I'd made in Photoshop were picked up nicely in the printing of the book. My 20 page 8"x6" cost about A$18 so I'm doing more books through Apple so at least I can show friends and aquaintances what I do.
