On-Line sites for digital printing

I have some scanned images I would like to have printed and was wondering if anyone have any recommendations on on-line sites to use for uploading files to and getting prints back.

Especially interested in any site you may have used for b&w images - or toned b&w images.

Mpix.com has been my friend so far. No complaints, and have won 2nd place in two competitions and sold a print from an exhibition using prints made at Mpix. Digital and scanned film, no problems either way.

I am thinking about checking out American Frame for framing. We'll see. No personal experience yet.

Thanks Bill, have you done any b&w through them?

Indeed I have, Rich, and have been quite pleased. If you still have the same email address, I have just sent you a 'share' invite - you can see my most recent prints.

I use MPix as well. I've been mostly happy...less so with the black and white.
I'd love to have some glossy black and white, but I don't think they offer it.
They aren't expensive though and the service is good and fast. Certainly worth printing a few things to find out.

Another vote for Mpix. Having black and white printed on their "True Digital" black and white paper has gotten really good results for me. Very quick service, I've uploaded on a Sunday night, received my order by the following Wednesday.

I've used Shutterfly several times. I have no idea if the cognoscenti thinks Shutterfly is any good, but I've been happy with the quality of the stuff I had them print (mostly digital, but lately a large copy of my "dog and a half" Rollei photo that came out well) and since they're in Hayward it takes next to no time for them to mail things to me.

Bill,
thanks - got the link (I liked the old car shot a lot).

If printing b&w images where one has applied a coloured duotone - what type of paper do you people think one should request?

The one time I did this, I used the standard Kodak "E-Surface", which is for color shots.

I generally use adorama for my printing, what I like about it is they have printer profiles you can download (for photoshop) and see your image (as close as possible) to the way their printer does. I've done color, black and white and some slightly toned (sepia) images and have been very happy with the results.

I always allow for their in house color correction as well. and print on Matte Paper

I've had pretty good results from MPix. With BW files, you still upload as RGB. I'd suggest a test print first, with a few different curves adjustments on an image with a full range of tones. I found that my BW images needed a bit more shoulder in the highlights.

U.K online printers

U.K online printers

For U.K. guys - just noticed Photobox have a good offer available until midnite 14th Tuesday - TEN 10x8" prints for ONE quid. Plus usual standard postage of £1.50.

Be quick.

ps
Their quality is very good and service second to none - usually if ordered by 3:00 pm the prints are with me the next day - but the offer conditions specify there maybe a longer delay and only one use per household - but at that price, who cares ........

pps
Postal charges outside UK - Rest of Europe £1.99, Rest of World £3.80 so still very economical for Europe !

Rich,

Take a look at West Coast Imaging . I can't comment on quality yet because I just submitted my first image to be printed 16x20 on Epson K3 ink. Any firm that chooses to locate near Yosemite is worth a try in my book.

Photobox have good prices for smaller prints but when you get bigger you are not going to beat ProAm Imaging. They do 16x12 and 18x12 for £1 and that is their standard rate not a special offer (shipping is more though but still cost effective). They also provide ICC profiles which Photobox don't. No online system but at that price I'm more than willing to stick a CD in the post.

Hmm. I've always uploaded grayscale, gotten excellent results.

Another vote for Mpix.com. Large variety of print sizes. Very fast shipping. I usually upload and print color files, but my last order included some B&W. I was happy with their B&W printing.

Rich,
I've seen some 20 X 30 color prints made from JPG files shot on a Canon 20D that looked terrific. 20 X 30 prints mounted on foamboard were $50 last summer. I haven't checked their prices recently.
