I understand that to try to dissemble, then to reassemble most lenses, is not a job for amateurs such as myself, and is asking for major problems. In other words, don't even think about it.

I am therefore considering sending a couple of slightly 'fogged' (no fungus present) Leitz LTM lenses, a 35mm and a 50mm, to a qualified camera repair shop for a cleaning job. Both lenses are usable at this time but on closer examination may benefit from such a cleaning.

Compared to a RF Leica camera CLA (clean, lubricate and adjust) - say an M3 for instance, just how expensive is it to have a lens cleaned?

Does having a lens cleaned compare price wise to having a camera CLA'd or is it possibly cheaper?

Being retired, I do need to plan ahead on these things.

Thank you for any input you may provide.

It can run abywhere from $25 up to $100 or so, depending on the degree that the lens has to be torn down. Check with Youxin Ye or Eddy Smolov for less expensive repairs. Contact information can be found on RFF using the Search Function.
