Curiosiry question:

What magazines/periodicals do you buy and like?

My personal favories:

The ones I buy every issue of:

* Black and White Photography
Note: The british magazine - NOT the American BW magazine.
Excellent magazine - one of the few I read cover to cover the same day it comes out.

* Lens Work
Sigh, gives me LF-lust...

The ones I buy often

* PDN
Excellent

* Shutterbug
It's cheap and if it has a good article or review - why not.

i don't buy anything with any regularity anymore.
i used to pick up 5 or 6 different mags every month.
i do like that brit B&W mag too.
now, i look at the table of contents and see if there is anything that looks interesting.

While I hardly ever buy a photo magazine, I read almost all of them when I am at the bookstore. What did people ever do before bookstores started selling coffee and giving you tables to read magazines at? Oh yeah, they bought the mags.

I was suscribed to two: Petersen's Photographic Mag, and Popular Photography (and Imaging). I dropped the Petersen's and kept the PopPhoto as the former grew thinner in articles and fatter in advertising.

Petersen's is now nothing but thinly disguised ads pretending to sometimes be product reviews. It's my least favorite of any magazine I can think of.

The only ones that I subscribe to is the Amateur Photography from Great Britain. It runs in depth articles about classic cameras written by Ivor Matanle every few weeks. I also get Classic Camera which is very well produced. Of the others I look at the table of contents and buy if there's an article I'm interested in.

I've never actually read 'Classic Camera' - not sure my local Border's carries it. Will have to check it out. Thanks for the tip.

Somehow, both Popular Photography and Peterson's think I am worth sending monthly magazines for which I never subscribed. Even more mysterious is a weekly package of 6 TV Guides, also not subscribed by or billed to me. Usually I flip through the issues, then leave them at a local used photo equipment shop or laundromat for others to read or take home.

Years ago I used to avidly read all photo publications I could get my hands on and learned a lot from them. Now, the only ones I read regularly is PDN and the quarterly DoubleTake, best of them all but always in financial trouble. Recently they suspended publication, not the first time, but announced they hope to resume in January '04.
