Hi,

I just received a Jupiter-3 lens. With an m39<->ltm adapter I attached it to my M4-2. But...

The frame within the viewfinder sticks to 35mm, altough it's 50mm lens. The adapter is for 50-75mm.

Is this because of the camera, the adapter or the lens?

Try re-mounting the lens- sometimes the frame-line selector sticks. It could also be a cheap/poorly machined adapter which had too much material taken off the lug. Finally, it could be an issue with your camera. I'd try a different adapter or lens first and see if the correct frame lines appear with that.

When you look at the adapter from the back, notch at 12 o clock. Check the
bayonett flange at 10 o'clock for file marks. It might have been modified.

drewbarb, I've tried it several times... no way. unfortunately, I've got only two lenses. This 50 and a 35, so I can't try it with another one.

ferider, the flange looks fine. No scratches or so..

Anyway... the *mark* for for right focal length is applied on the adapter, right? So it might is the adapter's fault?!

There is no mark, Christian. The flange I mentioned has 3 different lengths.
The shortest flange is the 35/135 adapter, followed by the 50/75, with the
longest flange on the 28/90 adapter.

I have the same problem with my Leica CL and 50/75 adapter + Jupiter 8 50mm..
The 50mm frames wont show up.
I think it is the adapters fault, I bought a cheap one from China.
Shouldn't have.. so now I need to buy a new adapter.
Or a Leica M3....

90% of the time the cheap knock-off adapters are a waste of money, IME. These things have to be pretty precisely machined.

Anyway, the M3, while an expensive way to make sure you get a 50mm frame line, is always a good camera to have in your stable.

Find a real Leitz adapter, or get one of the Voigtlaender ones. Whatever way you go, you'll have to pony up more than the cheap Chinese ones will set you back.

ferider, okay.. I see.

drewbarb, I bought it here. To measure the exact depth of the flange I have no fitting tool, because usual mm won't here, right?
This price alone- and the fact that they don't show you the front of the adapter- makes me suspect that this is a cheap (read=poorly made) knock off. Try a better one.

Why disillusioned? They fault lies with the knock-off maker- these things have very tight tolerances, and it's easy to get it wrong. A miss is as good as a mile here. You get what you pay for. Sorry you are disappointed, but it's a fairly easy fix- you just have to get a well made adapter- and they do cost a bit more.

Cheap adapters are a pain. Fortunately my LTM - M mount adapters are all original Leica ones so no real problems (although one I have which came with a Summarit I bought years ago is noticeable harder to mount than the others making me think even Leica's tolerances can be out sometimes. It still works however. On the other hand (and slightly off topic but a good illustration of how adapters can go wrong) I have bought no less than 3 M42 to Olympus 4/3 adapters and one Nikon to 4/3 adapter and I honestly cannot say I am satisfied with ANY of them. They all introduce focus errors to a greater or lesser degree. All were cheap (ish) - in the $20+ range but in the case of the 4/3 camera I am disinclined to pay the near $200 for an adapter which some charge - presumably they are hand made and assembled and all within tolerance but even so it seems and unconscionable amount for a simple metal linkage when even good quality teleconverters with 5 or more glass elements go for around this.

Yea, I already mailed to the seller. But... I found a solution until I get a better one. *g*
