Why is it that LTM lenses always seem to line up with their index line at approximately the 1:00 position? This seems to be the case for all different makers I see, even my Canon lens on a Bessa R, but with the exception of all the various Russkiis which seem to be quite close to 12:00. I'm sure there is a reason for this, but it escapes me.

Cheers,

Possibly a legend, but I read somewhere that it allows you to see the focus distance through the VF (works w/some bodies).

What Chris said.

Note that even some Leica lenses are like this.

Then again, many lenses only have the focus infinity position at 1 o'clock, but the "aperture dot" at 12 o'clock.
