One Sharp Electro GT

I finally got around to processing a roll that has been languishing in my GT for about a month. I shot a particularly bad portrait in harsh sun and really cold and windy conditions outside a coffee shop. But, I could not believe the quality of the capture. This is on Acros at EI80 processed in HC-110 Dil H for 9:00.

Here is the photo and a 100% crop of the detail. I think I shot it at f/5.6 and the crop has no sharpening, scanned from a Minolta Scan Dual IV.

I bought this non-functioning GT for $19.99. Fixed the pad of death, cleaned and aligned the RF, new seals and she works great. The meter reads 2/3 of a stop high, so I set it to ISO 32 for EI80. I liked the negatives so much, I am going to try to stop myself from screwing around with the meter settings 🙂

Recently parted with mine,-somewhat reluctantly, but I just can't seem to be happy with auto exposure, but the f1.7 Yashinon is a superb lens!......if only they had given a manual mode!! 🙁

I know what you mean about the absence of manual control. It does have 1/30th on command though. And, you can pull the battery for 1/500. No manual, what are we talking about? It has 2 speeds!!

To each his own but aperture priority and a stepless shutter is a huge plus. But this brings up a separate topic. When you say "manual control" do you really need it? Here's what I mean.

I have an "all manual" slr. Know what? For all intents and purposes it's "shutter priority". Do you really - ever, use all manual cameras as "aperture priority"? Do you really turn the futzy little knob that sets shutter speed to match the aperture of your camera?

I'm posting a separate thread about this.

I agree about aperture priority over shutter priority. Among several other rangefinders (see definition of GAS), I have a QL17 GIII, a Revue 400SE 25, Leica CL, Olympus 35RC . All shutter priority. I have learned to use them but I have about 25+ years shooting aperture priority and it is much more intuitive to me. However, the benefit to a camera with manual control or even shutter priority, is that you can quickly apply compensation when needed that seems to take a little more work with a "aperture priority only" body like the Electro series. Given the choice, I would always take aperture priority over shutter priority. When I shoot DSLR's, which is a lot, I go between manual and aperture priority. Almost never shutter priority. In the last few years, I have shot my RB67 a lot and I have become comfortable with full manual too. A camera is just a box that holds some kind of recording media.
