Online transaction gone bad, suggestions?

O. I received the camera and found that the rewind knob was crooked, the aperture readout in the viewfinder does not work, and the film counter is stuck behind 'S". Thanks

Not sure how the rewind lever can be "crooked" without being bent. Is this really a big deal? Unless the prism is seriously dented the window for the lens aperture is fixed in the body and has to work. More likely your using a lens that the little aperture numbers don't align with the window - not uncommon. Also the film counter usually doesn't work unless film is in the camera, it's easy for the seller to miss unless he runs film thru the camera.

I'm trying not to be negative here but what did you expect for $35? I can't ship anything for less than $7.50 so complaining because a guy won't refund $6 in shipping fees seems pretty petty to me.

You could break down and spend $75 to have the 25 year old camera cleaned and adjusted and have a great camera but your too d_mn cheap. This is why I no longer put stuff on eBay or even here. There seems to be a lot more bottom feeder buyers than sellers IMHO.

Nikon still makes the F6, buy a new camera with warranty.

I appreciate the replies from you as well as everybody else, like i said i've sold and bought items from ebay but never ran into bumps like this. I was just needing to know what reasonable course of action to take. I assumed a negative feedback would be given if he didn't cooperate and thats why it was an option. If i've offended you in some way i apologize, this thread wasnt meant to get so serious 😱

You're not teaching a morality class to the masses. You will not change the world, or this guy either.

Just get your money back, and don't worry about teaching him a lesson.

The next time YOU will make some minor mistake and someone will decide to ruin YOUR feedback or "teach you a lesson".

PS: I told you EXACTLY what to do and what to click and say to get your money back. If you don't want to listen, good luck. There are plenty of "eBay experts" on this forum who will give you lots of fantastic advice.

Beemermark is also correct. Maybe there's nothing wrong with the camera at all.

People are not being so serious with you, they just want you to be responsible and think about the consequences of your actions. Most people take no responsibility for anything these days.

Also, on your blog, you need to do some post processing on your images. Like even basic brightness and contrast.

I have to agree with Oscar. Just looking at the auction, you should have noticed that it is just BS, and stay away from it...
And looking at the sellers history and ratings, it is even clearer.

But that's not a reason not to go for all the money.
It's business after all!

I don't buy or sell at eBay, but I gotta say that the link included by the OP points to a sale that does not contain the words "as is". In fact, the condition is described simply as "used." Per the OP's description, the seller failed to describe faults I think any seller is obligated to mention.

The feedback contains a single negative report. The rest is useless positive praise. The seller has a 100% rating.

The low price would have scared me away, along with the absence of any detailed photos and the absence of any real condition description.

In other words, several things are wrong with the camera that the seller did not mention. Used does not mean broken. Whether or not he provides a refund, that fact deserves to be in his feedback.

Why not just inform the seller of the eBay/Paypal policy, and agree to split the shipping cost: he pays the initial shipping, and you pay the return. That way you don't have to involve eBay or make a big deal out of it.

Yeah thats what i have just requested from him, but he is saying since shipping was set as free he should subtract the shipping fee he paid to ship it to me initially from the total refund amount and also have me pay to ship back. I would not have much of a problem to pay for shipping the item back, but it doesn't make much sense to me that he is not refunding me the full auction amount.

Al, you know you're right. With all the discussion over it and with my OCD tendencies I am getting stressed just dealing with such a measly ordeal. Thanks everybody i'm gonna just eat it and be smarter next time when buying from an unknown seller. I feel better just typing this, like a sign of relief whew 😀

The seller made no representation of condition or functionality in his listing. If the buyer did not query the seller as to the camera's specific condition and functionality, the seller did not misrepresent the item.

I disagree. Caveat emptor is not a license for sellers to deceive customers and does not excuse a seller from responsibility to adequately and honestly describe merchandise. This is particularly so in the case of used merchandise, and even more so on an online market because the potential buyer cannot examine the merchandise prior to purchase.

In the absence of any other description, the word "used" indicates that the item is functioning correctly. This camera clearly is not functioning correctly. The seller deserves to be faulted for at least an incomplete description, if not a deceptive description.

Isnt it lovely how a buyer can intimidate/blackmail seller with negative feedback on ebay now that no negative feedback can be left for a buyer? 🙄

Unfortunately, a number of sellers screwed it up for everyone by using negatives as a threat. I received thinly veiled legal threats regarding leaving negative feedback from sellers - and this was part of the initial "Congratulations for winning" email. And the widespread practice of refusing to provide feedback until the buyer has left positive sure didn't help.

Eventually people will realize that a seller with a few negs is common and they will look past it. The days of perfect seller feedback is gone, I suppose.
