Only one camera into Belarus?!!

Ditto the second camera using the same size film. On a hiking trip to Rocky Mountain National Park some years ago my Bronica RF645 died, leaving me without a camera except for my wife's P&S. Once burnt, twice shy - always take a backup.

Governments do what is handy to them. They don't care if one wants to use 3 cameras of different purpose and have two backup pieces. They don't care one person from thousand would like to buy any film camera as they are....outdated?

On other hand, you can't take more than two packs of cigarettes into EU. If you come from US and travel right to Eastern Europe you can end up without your favorite smoke and have to buy second (or even third?) tier makes not sold in Western Europe (I'm just repeating what local smokers are saying - in western part of EU cigarettes of same brand are of better quality).

Correction - you can bring one carton of smokes = 10 packs = 200 cigs.

I was curious about tax and duty etc and started to look things up. In England, if I bought a camera from the USA for UKP (£)200 and paid £20 P&P on it; the tax and duty would be just over £55. That's a lot of money to a lot of people in a lot of countries. And the rates are low here...

Also, there's rules about temporary importing (for tourists and repairs) and other rules about them not claiming amounts below(from memory) £9 and so. So it's not really surprising.

You might find you can take three or more cameras with a bit of paper issued by their embassy before travelling. And wives and girlfriends can take cameras too. Careful planing gets round rules, imo. (It's best to take only the wife or only the girlfriend, never both, btw.)

Dealing with customs people here or anywhere is no different. A lot depends on how you treat them and they often are prepared to turn a blind eye...

10 packs is inside EU countries (haven't see control except airports, though). Coming from Ukraine to Poland (non-EU into EU, that is) 2 packs is the limit.

I'm probably going to relocate from Ukraine to Austria for work in September. I'm inclined to believe there's no duty on personal items, but what about cameras, lenses and film? How many can I bring at once? 🙂
