so, earlier today, i'm about to run out the door to meet some friends and i think to myself, "better check ebay b4 u leave".

so i do.

and that gossen meter i had on the watch list was gonna end while i would be out.

do i bid or not? naah, not worth it as they have been going for way too much money since i started looking for another one.

but, just for the heck of it, i bid 20 bucks american and leave the house.

and damn if i don't come home and find i'd won the thing.

interesting and of note, i just made a deal yesterday with a forum member to buy HIS gossen. now i'll have 3 of the same meters.

BTW, I've just had the same sort of thing happen. I look for odd lots or boxes going for cheap. I bid on two separate lots tonight, got both for .99 cents each - LOL. A regular cable release, a bell shape (like Nikon R-2) cable release, a flash, a small studio light, brackets, etc. Love it !

So, what is a good bargin low light meter? I guess the Luna Pro is the best, but also expensive. Is there a decent meter that can get a reading on the dark side of the moon for just a few bucks?

i've been going after the gossen pilot series, not known for their low light abilities.
in lower light i use the built in in the bessa (not really known for their ll ability either) or mostly just guess. ya know, 1.8 at 1/30 sec and squeeze😉

Rover - even if i am repeating myself, i will say, i'm 99% satisfied with my Capital D-1 meter. It goes down to EV0 very accurately - for eur10+shipping. Has two scales, the high one reaches EV19-ish. Battery is common and seems to last forever. It's not tiny but it fits in a pocket. It's lightweight, plastic but quite resistent (dropped, used in rain, etc). Has a sliding incident-dome that works excellent.

That 1% would be the need for the spot-metering. Could be even less than 1%, though.

Pherdi, you have given an excellent summation of the Capitol D-1 meter. I also have one and it's very accurate - as far as I can tell - and everything else you say. If I had to criticize it, I'd have to say size and the case was plastic trash that I threw away within a couple of days when the elastic strap broke.

Because it's the only working meter I own, I've just mailed off a money order to purchase a Gossen Luna-Pro that was advertised as "mint" and comes with the original box and case. I wanted a back-up but the Luna-Pro may become my primary meter and the Capitol the secondary.
