Hi! I just got myself a new Yashica! I own a great Electro 35 GSN after my grandpa and now I got my hands on a Yashica Electro 35 GX, complete with rubber lens hood and the 2 auxiliary lenses. Everything in great condition! Everything seems to work just fine, even the light seals seems intact. But as you can see the viewfinder window is not in place. Does this affect the cameras performance? It's not loose, just not in place.

Loose parts from the window could fall down into the camera or jam the rangefinder, which is a self-contained unit directly behind the window. There are moving arms on the lens and rangefinder, that move the RF patch, which could potentially be blocked by the loose window sooner or later. Best bet would be to fix it.

How do I remove the top plate?!
I removed the winder, the rewind knob and some screws under the hotshoe. What am I missing here? It seems to be something near the winder.

What kind of glue should I use for the window? Can you give me some brand names as it would be easier for me to find the glue in a Swedish store.

Thanks

I think, in factory were used some water-based glues to avoid fumes clouding glass under top cover. Or maybe I'm too suspicious.

I just purchased an electro GX and have the same problem... I haven't tried to remove the top plate yet, but I can tell it's different from the G that Yashica Guy demonstrates. Any GX specific tips?

Very similar to G GS GSN.

Remove rewind Knob & the screw underneath, Remove film advance lever, you will need some form of Pin/Rangefinder spanner or friction tool to undo little disc on top.
Take off lever ass. Then remove the nut underneath with your pin spanner.
The top should come off then, dont think it is as complicated as the G series from memory.
I normally use contact adhesive, just be very sparing, dont get it on the glass.
Wait for it to cure properly before reassembly.

TAKE YOUR TIME..........

Good luck, and oh, did you sign the disclaimer?
