Well, I'm in need of a scanner (You'll finally be able to see my photos :p ), but can't invest the bank needed for the Coolscans and their ilk. My research has led me to the 8600F, which can be had for a reasonable $159.98 at Amazon.
Now, I've heard that I won't be getting the greatest resolution, or depth with a flatbed, but it seems the best path, so I'm looking for opinions on this, or other models.

I'm going to be scanning 35mm Negs (color and BW), Slides, and 120 negs, for use online and some printing.

I have one. Works OK, reasonably fast, reasonably stable film frames, so-so software. Good value for money factor, IMHO. Ask me for samples if you like. Cheers /Richard

Well, if it's not too much trouble, I'd love to see some samples.

I´ll get back to you tomorrow. Way past bedtime here :)

Tell me what you need to see, I´ll try to fix it first thing after coffee.

I'd like to see some close crops of a fullsize scan, to see how it deals with grain, as well as some general examples of photos you've scanned in, I haven't got any ideas for something specific.

4 samples from the same negative, at different dpi settings. Leica M2, Voigtländer APO-Lanthar 90/3.5, Tmax400, Calbe R09.

Nothing was corrected/adjusted, these are straight from negative > save for web > your screen:

Some more, various cameras, lenses, films & dpi settings:

I have medium format scans too, but these might be enough to show what this scanner can and cannot do.

PS: Silverfast comes bundled with the scanner, but I never used it. These are done with Scangear/Toolbox, the Canon software that comes with the scanner.

Cheers /Richard
