Just saw this a little while back, and it tickled me. Certainly not the first example of this phenomenon, but a pretty egregious one. Gist of the description is "Really good condition, everything functions perfectly! Oh and there might be a bit of chrome missing from a few areas"

(p.s: if I'm breaking any rules, apologies, somebody let me know! I figured it's OK since it's publicly accessible)

It is in "great condition".. Greatly brassed condition........ 🙄 🙄 🙄

In the sense that it looks like it's been brassed by a cheese grater!

It's made me wonder what it was used for previously. Bad storage? There's surprisingly little brassing around the shutter release, little leatherette damage, and the inside looks OK. Maybe littlemax is right, and it was an aborted repaint job

Well, this thing I found today fits nicely here.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NIKON-F-WIT...216753121?pt=Film_Cameras&hash=item19e508f9e1

This is a famous, even infamous Nikon F BLACK (the rare color!) 35mm SLR of legend, a longtime workhorse of Press and Nature photographers worldwide, the golden standard against which all other 35mm cameras were measured for decades!
Body working, in Very Good shape, finish in VG shape, less worn than many for a field-used camera. Has NOT been regulated in a long time. Multi-leaf Shutter mint (pictured) and mirror fine. Meter you may update.. Prism is fine, usable now, with simple micro-delta focus screen installed. There may be other screens on hand, lots of small accessories in a couple of bags, just going to include them!
BUY THE ENTIRE SETUP and be ready for anything with this top-notch, all working vintage kit: the Nikon F BLACK (Press version), with
FAMOUS Nikkor-s AUTO 50mm f1.4 basic lens. Fast enough without being a billion dollars. The f1.2 lenses of the day (60s and 70s) were overpriced and didn't do much for most photogs. f1.4 is a FAST lens. .
Comes also with the still amazing Honeywell Press Flash gun which can mount on any long bracket. VERY powerful, really reached to the back of a crowd when trying to get the shot of the well guarded celeb or criminal! The photos show the very good condition of this working, famous piece of history.
Also, comes with a Nippon Kogaku marked Nikkor 85mm true portrait lens (a wonderful luxury if you have never owned one) and a Nikkor marked 105mm close portrait lens. NK were the equivalent of Zeiss or Leitz in Japan, and were started with a merger that included optical engineers from the top German makers, too.
They made the lenses for early Canons and other top brands, so the early Canons had Nikkor lenses, even the miniature rangefinders, before the name was born... and NK got into the actual Camera business, making the Nikon Model One changeable lens RF, of which few are still in existence, most missing parts.
The "F" is the evolution brought to near bulletproof height, a heavy, all metal and solid feeling camera that worked in the desert, on top of the highest peaks in the world and could withstand outer space and no air pressure as well as the deepest bathyscaph diving machines and the bone-flattening pressures there, a mile beneath the surface of the ocean.
These amazing cameras are more than cameras: they are workhorse heirlooms, handed down like fine silver.
This one works. Some TLC and regulation and it will be an artist-grade camera, but with the very cool rare black finish!
Anyway, add in a Tamron vintage automatic Zoom, 80-250 (a VERY useful range) plus two different multiplier barrel extenders to double or quadruple (if I remember the values) the focal length. This would allow you to use the 50mm as a VERY fast 100mm, etc.
There is NO wide angle lens in this kit. Nikkor lenses were made down to a 12mm, iirc, though the 35mm and 28mm were the ones that were sold the most and should be able to be found on the used market fairly easily.
Remember, this is the camera that eventually sprang from the feeling that the best Contax and Leica's of the 40s and 50s just weren't quite all they could be, both lines each missing features, as well made as they were.
NK set out to create the last word in 35mm bodies. You will find that there are many varied accessories you can buy out there over the years around the world to flesh out a great setup for yourself over time!
Set also includes the ORIGINAL LEATHER CAMERA FIT CASE IN BLACK IN GOOD SHAPE (pictured). Also comes with a decent sized cordura gadget bag loaded with whatever other small accessories, possible manuals, filters, who knows. I just took out the obvious stuff for the pictures.
Includes caps (front and back) for the lenses, bags for the lenses, filters (as you see), polarizer, UV1A's on most everything, and really, it's just a matter of spending an evening at the kitchen table cleaning up everything and shooting. Then see if you want to go to the camera doc's to have the body regulated after you do a test roll or two.
Huge kit, priced for a couple pieces, with all others thrown in, since it's moving time and life for me is digital now. What are you going to do.
Perfect art camera, bullet-proof (probably literally) setup with retro-cool chic, just the thing for your budding Ansel Adams or Annie Liebowitz (RIP), and a great learning camera to really develop technique and carry it forward for life... with this camera!
Vintage for the price of a newly made ordinary camera, loaded with goodies!
$595 takes it all. Add $50 for USPS Priority Shipping, payable only by USPS if shipping.
Thanks!
