Pete,
I could not create, with digital or film scanning, the B&W photos I was looking for. So, I went back to the darkroom. It is rather easy for me since I have a apprenticeship in photo lab technic. When I create B&W photos I stay in the analog realm. When I am doing my bird photography I use my Nikon (D300) gear. As Ralph Gibson once said, Digital vs. Film is like DVD vs. Cinema. Just another look.
