Very interesting article on the Fuji Organic sensor on "fujix-forum"
Called "just-what-is-this-new-organic-sensor-thing"
(Sorry cant get any sort of link to work)

If you can manage to plough through it.

My thought, & you can stop me whenever you like.
Fuji & Panasonic are nearly there with the organic sensor.
It won't be full frame (read the article 70 Mpixels would give quite big files),
maybe similar crop to M8?
Any way, current xf lenses will cover image circle.
I think Fuji think the new sensor will be so much better than anything they or any other manufacturer has. That they are getting rid of all the old cameras + lots of legacy lenses.
Because as soon as word gets out about the X whatever it is. No one will want one!

Anyway read the article, its an eye opener for sure.
Do we believe the hype?

That link you supplied doesn't work for me. This should give you a direct download of a paper from some Palo Alto research on the subject: http://scholar.google.co.uk/scholar...r&ei=nIkbU-jfDs-Thgfe34CwDQ&ved=0CDsQgAMoADAA

Yep, I've just tested it and it works with Safari and Chrome.

This link works for me, thanks.
The new tech looks good on paper. But then again, there are a few possible future competing technologies that look good on paper.
Thanks to the OP for the HU.

Insane dynamic range and high iso capability... I am hoping that this will be available in the next xpro camera.. Hoping for something more concrete to be announced by photokina in September.. One of the main reasons I am holding off on getting the xt1 is that this sensor could be only another year away.

Gary

Ps. I was also not able to get to ops link.

If they can get the latitude and dynamic range out of it, then it'll be very interesting. Being able to just guess exposure on a digital camera and get pleasing results would be a remarkable step forward.

Not saying I'd buy, but I'd definitely be impressed.

I posted a link to that thread a few weeks ago.
I agree, it is easier to understand for the layperson.

Like Gary, whose tastes in gear I often share, I'm also biding my time waiting for that sensor to make it to market as it is rumored to do. And then I'll probably wait another 18 months after that so that I can buy it at a discount off the initial price 😀 . I really love the system that Fuji has successfully built at the APS-C level. Sensor development is just one part of that. That's what I really like about Fuji, their XF system is developing in a balanced, complete way. Excellent bodies, excellent lenses, excellent sensor technology, the right compromise between size, price, quality, and innovation...

Small sensor areas still have the same DOF/angle-of-view issues. I don't see where the XF lens compatibility is an attractive feature. And, the current XF lenses are designed to maximize the light ray angles for color-filter-array lenses. I don't know if these optical designs are optimal with organic sensors.

However a decrease in maximum surface area could more than be compensated for by the potential increases in dynamic range/signal to noise ratio.

Something will happen sooner or latter to get out of the plateau current sensor technology is approaching.

You know how exciting it will be ? Once these sensors will start coming out, you will have an excuse not to buy a camera for 20 years, because you will wait for the next upgrade to be better ! 😀
Just think of it - who would want a 16 stop dr and clean iso 64000, if you could get 20 stops and iso 256000 in a couple of years ! 😱

collective slap?

collective slap?

I think if this sensor is for real.
All the hype lived up to etc...
We will all have to take a step back, give ourselves a collective slap,
& jump on the bandwagon.
Full frame crop DOF etc etc will soon, I think, become irrelevant.
Lenses will have to catch up.
Designed for sensor, etc etc.
Wouldn't it be great to have a post from Mr Fuji sensor San?
Or the like.…....…
