'Thought it might be nice to compile a list of some of the most beautiful original prints that are available for viewing at local libraries and universities.

I'll start. Feel free to contribute.

A stunning limited edition -- one of only two hundred sixty copies -- of fifteen original gelatin silver prints mounted on what appears to be 16" x 20" board, by Ansel Adams. Louisiana State University Library, Special Collections, Rare Book Room, in Baton Rouge -- Ansel Adams "What majestic word; in memory of Russell Varian." Library call number: TR650 .A2

This is what inspired me when I was just starting to learn how to print. I still consider it the gold standard.

The Library of Congress also has a copy

Oh, very nice Bob. I had no idea. My grandparents lived in Daytona. Wish I'd known then. Will definitely check it out next time we're visiting friends and family nearby Thanks!

A Gallery on Chartres in the French Quarter of New Orleans is an excellent museum where everything is for sale. Want to see an Ansel Adams "Moonrise Hernandez"? Want to buy one? Like everything else, bring you wallet. Just about everyone famous has something in there.

I believe the only good reason to visit the French Quarter.

Bumping this old thread for anyone that might be interested in seeing how beautiful old, original prints can be when viewed live in a good, well lit location.

It was incredibly inspiring to me when I was first trying to learn about photography in general and printing in particular, to stumble upon a volume of original prints by Ansel Adams in the LSU library (citation listed in first post). Reproductions in books and magazines just never seem to do the original art justice.

There must be nice original prints from the old masters like Adams, Weston and others available for viewing at numerous location around the US.

Feel free to post in this thread any nice original collections available for public viewing you are aware of.

'Hoping it might help others to experience something similar if we can post the locations of inspiring original prints available for local viewing.

I don't claim the photos I'm attaching below are in the same league, but they were directly inspired by the amazing original Ansel Adams images I saw as a kid barely out of my teens at the LSU library rare book room many years ago.
