Hi All,
Just got in today's mail, the original Canon 50mm F1.2 Red filter, with plastic case.
Should work well with faster B&W film outside.
I also have the clear 1.2 filter. Was it available in any other colors? A deep yellow would be great

I have the original Canon filters for the 50/1.2 in these flavors:
Canon Y-3 yellow
Canon O-1 orange
Canon G-1 green
Canon R-1 red
Canon UV
There are probably others, too.

I will have a look when I get home. I did have a set of about 5 which I sold to another forum member about a year ago. However, I should habve a record somewhere. I certainly think there was a lighter yellow than Y3.

Kim, I am pretty sure that there are others, too. I used to have a Canon filter pamphlet somewhere that listed a bunch of filters for the line of lenses. The 50/1.2 takes a 55mm filter IIRC.
I will look for the pamphlet after I get home.

Yes, there were 55mm. Most were the "slim" variety which didn't have the front thread as the "proper" hood was a clamp-on one.

Yes, the ones I have are the slim variety, with aluminum rims.

The 55mm size was used for some of the later chrome breech lock FD lenses - ie the 85mm f1.8 lens.

Also used on the RF versions of the 85/1.8 and 100/2 lenses.

I thought the black 85/1.8 and the black 100/2 were both 58mm thread and use the S60 hood.

Kim, I think that you are right, 58mm. My mistake

I was the buyer from Kim, and there were just those filters, yellow, green, orange, red, and UV.
Some are specifically marked as being for the 50 1.2 lens, others are generically marked 55mm.
They have an interesting design quirk, or maybe bug. The glass is flush with the front of the filter rim. That means that they MUST be put with the front facing the layer of white felt in the filter case, or they will be ruined by contact with the plastic.
It is important to find filters for the 50/1.2 that do not touch the glass of the lens, it sticks out very close to the front filter rim.

Canon sold the 55mm filters for the 1.2/50 in a kit with bakelite and colored stack caps. Beside the mentioned R, O, G, Y, UV there was also a yellowish color correction filter:
