A few weeks ago I posted a response to someone's thread about the Orion-15. I have one of these in 39mm thread mount and use it on my FED-2.
I took it out for a spin yesterday and got the results back this morning.
It's very sharp in the center but the fall-off to the edges is noticeable. All in all, not a bad 2.8cm lens.
These shots were done at f/8 and 1/250th of a second.

I like the quality! Is the light fall-off at the edges due to vignetting or some other reasons?
Concerning resolution - in the first picture we see ship with white labels to the left. I'd say the label is very readable so the resolution at the edges is fine for me.

I've found here
http://kiev4.narod.ru/tutorial/kiev4.html#vignetting
that Jupiter-12 has noticeable vignetting at 2.8. As Orion-15 has even smaller focus distance, this effect probably is even more visible. What we see in your photos.

hey, they're only Zorkis
Here's a couple of my recents that were taken in low-light conditions with obvious darkening toward the edges. I don't really mind this and haven't noticed it so much in daylight. For my own "tourist" uses, I really like the lens.

Film is the other way
Iliks, unfortunately only a few RFF members are capable of reading Russian. Tough to determine which set of shots you are refering to in your note in this thread
BTW what's the weather like there right now in Novosibirsk, Russia. Warm?

I used Systran online translation on that site (google it) - It reads a bit odd, kind of like a translated manual, but it was workable most of the time. Neat site!

Hi JJW,
great purchase! I always loved mine for its resolution and the vignetting seems to resolve at f/11 to f/16 (the reslution is also best at those apartures i think)
I didn´t bother much using it wide open and when I did, I had the same vignetting in my pics as you do
It´s a light and great lens and for the money I´d say it´s hard to beat!
Have Fun with yours and stop it down some more
Cheers
Fred
Two examples of the Orion at f/16 ..

See, I posted anchored link (ends with #vignetting), so upon loading of page browser will jump straight to what I wanted to post.jan normandale said:Iliks, unfortunately only a few RFF members are capable of reading Russian. In the West people often think that it is always cold in Siberia. But here we have continental climate. It means very cold during the winter (up to -40C) and very hot during the summer (up to +35C). Now the weather is +13C but several days ago it was +35C.jan normandale said:BTW what's the weather like there right now in Novosibirsk, Russia. Warm?
