Just checking before I go a head and update to Mavericks. Anyone updated and run into problems with VueScan and scanning?
I have VueScan and a OpticFilm 8100.
Should probably be just fine right?

I predict the Plustek 7600i will work as soon as Silverfast supports Mavericks. There seems to be a business alliance between Plustek and Silverfast as Plustek stopped offering OS X driver updates.
This means OS X Plustek owners who use VueScan must download and install the trial version of Silverfast that supports the OS X release they are running. This installs the correct OS X driver. Once you confirm the scanner works with Silverfast, it should work with the newest version of VueScan. Then you delete Silverfast until the next major OS X upgrade. So essentially Silverfast provides the driver for free in a rather inconvenient way.
Anyway, that's how things worked for the OS X 7 to OS X 8 upgrade.
Spread the word.

Mavericks and VueScan 9.4.08 are working well for me, driving Nikon Coolscan V, Super Coolscan 9000, and Epson 2450 scanners without any problems.
(VueScan 9.4.04 had a regression where it did not correctly form .DNG files. Avoid that version.)

The latest Plustek driver update (1.0.0.6) seems to have broken Vuescan for me under Mac OS 10.9. There are some other confirmations of that here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/vuescanusers/discuss/72157635412920015/
Ed's looking into it, so we'll see what comes out of it.
My Canon 9000F Mark II does not have any similar issues under Vuescan and works as intended.
Under Windows 7 64bit, I have no such issues with Vuescan.

I did install this driver and I will use time machine to restore the computer prior to this. Let´s see....

Silverfast works just fine under 10.9. It is only Vuescan that is affected.

I'm astonished that such a minor OS upgrade screws up drivers. If the MS people had done this, the world was in an uproar.
I'm using Silverfast with Mac OS 10.8 and I'm not willing to upgrade soon because I want to avoid any problems.
It's the Plustek driver update that broke VueScan.
For most scanners, VueScan supplies its own drivers that haven't broken.
I haven't had to replace drivers for anything I've got that didn't come bundled with the Mavericks update.

I was not able to remove the Plustek driver neither I know where to search for it.
But I did install the latest version of silverfast 8 for Maveriks and while the scanner works with silverfast, it still does not work with Vuescan.

I don't think you remove any drivers manually. I think the Silverfast install scripts remove the old driver(s) and install new ones.
Based on your report it appears VueScan has to come up with a release that is compatible with the new driver. It is also possible Silverfast has become more clever and is somehow protecting their new Mavericks driver so it can not work with Vuescan. In this case, VueScan may never work with Plustek products and Mavericks.
Luckily, there is an inexpensive (compared to buying the hideous Silverfast software) way around this if you want to use VueScan, Mavericks and Plustek products. You make a bootable Mountain Lion system on an external hard drive and only use that drive when you scan.
o Obtain an inexpensive external hard drive. I believe a fresh install of OS 10.8 takes no more than 110 GB of space (including Apps, etc). A 250 to 320 GB USB 3.0 external HD is $50 to $60 from Amazon. You may even have an old drive laying around (I do).
o Reformat and error check the external HD.
o Then install Mountain Lion on the external drive. This procedure can vary with different Macs but you can find the help on Apple's web site.
OR
o Clone your current hard drive to create a bootable system an the external hard drive. In this case you may need to acquire a larger USB 3 drive. A 1 TB drive is about $70 -$80.
In either case:
o Make sure you can boot your Mac from the external HD. Make sure the Plustek unit works when you are booted on the external drive.
o Now install Mavericks on your Mac's HD.
Whenever you want to scan with the Plustek, boot into the external HD with Mountain Lion. When the scanning session is over, you can boot into Mavericks and continue.
I would also back up the OS X 10.8 external drive.
I realize this may seem complicated, but at least one does not have to bullied around around by Plustek/Silverfast.
Of course a VueScan fix may be available within days or weeks… I certainly hope so. But you do not have to buy Silverfast to use Plustek products on OS X.

I just replaced the hard disk of my imac with a ssd disk so the old OS is still on the old disk. I will see if I can boot from there.
Anyway if this Silverfast vs Plustek hidden battle is true I guess that I can not take Plustek products seriously from now on. If I bought a plustek product I expect them to supply me a fair support.

Obviously my idea that Silverfast's Mavericks driver only works with Silverfast products is pure speculation. We should know if VueScan is able to support Plustek products with OS X 10.9 before too long.
