Well, a tip of my hat to Oskar. I have a IIIf and like the VW original beetle have always been amazed at the engineering. The only person that I know besides Porsche, and Barnack that has done this type of reengineering of an existing product is Leo Fender. I'm sure there are others but not as important to me.

Wonderful. Thanks for posting. Having the workshop notebooks tracing the whole development is unique for such a revolutionary invention. The connection with this history is there shooting with any Leica, but there's nothing like a Leica II and other Barnacks, so compact. I remember starting out in the '70s and being puzzled by books which talked about the 'miniature camera'. Barnack's own term of Lilliput is apt, a nod to Swift, an Irishman who imagined a whole world, just as Barnack did.

Im happy to see credit go to Barnack and Fender but Porsche, while a fine engineer, simply stole the basic idea for the Beetle.

Probably, but Tesla stole his other idea; one hundred years later.
