OK, I know this is OT but I also know there are a number of members with ETR series SLRs on the forum and I've got a bit fed up of the sarcasm that you get when posting queries on apug. They're just not as nice as RFF members (I know some are members of both ...).

Anyway, issue ... purchased ETR series 150mm MC bargain lens from KEH 2 weeks ago. Seemed OK when it arrived but only just had a chance to really play with it. The shutter appears to have a problem, generally only firing at one speed. If I set it to say 4s or 8s on the camera, it fires correctly once in a blue moon, ie. stops down the apperture and waits for the alotted number of seconds then closes. Generally it just seems to fire immediately at all speeds. Now cannot see how its the camera because I tested it at the same time with a 50mm MC which works fine. Any ideas? I tested it on an ETR camera (I do have an ETRSi body too) but since both lens are MC (and it shouldn't make a difference anyway), it looks like I've got stuck with a faulty lens and my own fault for not testing correctly within the 14 day timeframe to return it. Any suggestions/comments appreciated. :bang:

Do you have fresh batteries in the camera bodies? Have you cleaned the mount on the lens itself to make sure it is making good contact with the camera body? That's all that I can think of off the top of my head.

Wayne, thanks for the suggestions. I can check the battery but the shutter works fine on the 50mm lens.

Would the 150mm lens use more power for the shutter?

After posting, I suddenly wondered if it could be the contacts on the lens itself since the 50mm lens works OK, as do my 40mm and 75mm on the same body.

Wayne, you may have been right about the battery :) . I dug out the recently acquired ETRSi body and tried the lens, worked every time I tested (about 8 tests done). Looks like the 150mm lens may take more power to set the shutter speed than the 50mm .... Weird, does anyone know if this is the case?

I had a similar problem with my 40mm, about half my shots taken on a very cold day failed. I changed the battery and all was well. I suggest using the silver battery and not tha Alkaline version, they are a lot more consistent withe my ETRS (not i) in cooler conditions when using the AE II prism.
