OT: computer problem

Would definately recommend AVG, I've been using it for a number of years and it was recommended to me by a friend in the "trade" so to speak.

Yeah, I use AGV too, and I've delected the McAffe mine came with.

I've bookmarked the AGV page, and I downloaded and ran Spybot. It found and fixed 51 problems. I have not had an issue with my computer for 2 days now. Thank you all again for your helpful advice!

Other people have covered everything. I'll say only that you should first back up all the data you don't want to lose -- that ought to be done routinely anyway -- and then rule out all possible problems one by one, both software and hardware. It's good to keep in mind the "weakest link" principle.

Apple Mac is expensive upfront but works out cheaper and easier in the long term.
