OT - Evil SLR: Just love that FM2N Shutter

4

TennesseJones, enjoy your camera. The one and only thing to watch out is never ever touch the shutter blades when loading film. If you poke your finger into the shutter mechanism consider spending something like $300US for getting it repaired. I know, I did.

I would add the light seals. they can be transformed gum by now, least on older FE & FM series. and, light meter on the same.

after having those serviced and checked, my FE has just been begging more film and giving me guilty conscience of watching it too much standing on the shelf :p

Mablo and Jarski.. Thanks so much for the advice..
Will try and stay away from the shutter blades! And will look out for the light seals.. First test roll came back, seems ok, tedious pics but checking it works.. i attach a couple with the 50mm, they seem to work alright (although that 50mm lens makes a little crunchy noise sometimes when moving the focus right round...?)
(Once read that a battered exterior of a camera should be avoided because the insides will be busted too, but hopefully mr fm2 seems to be ok..)

IIRC the shutter on my Nikon FM2n was even louder than that on my FM.
Adding the MD12 I could make enough racket to practically wake the dead.
I sold all the Nikons over ten years ago. The only one I miss it the FTn.

This sounds like one of those "expensive to read" treads here on RFF :)
Thanks for the good reading, Had a FM my self as the first "real" camera, was lucky to trade my F401s for a
FM with two lenses in the mid 90's, sold it for some dumb reason . . . Might be because of another Nikon, but still dumb,
have a FM now but the meter drain a battery for 2 hours, but no problem as long as you have a weston master V :)

Still lusting for a FM2/T or a FM2n.

For a light lens i recommend a 45mm nikkor P, can´t go wrong since its a Tessar :)
A FM2/T and a black 45mm, that would be something for the Christmas-stocking :D
