I bought an MP3 player with the ebay gift certificate my wife gave me for Christmas. It came yesterday and this morning I ripped my first CDs and transferred them to the device. 😀

This is a big technological step for me. I am a little afraid about hitting Napster or Rhapsody and downloading music. I may need to borrow a real teen to figure that out. 😎

He with the most toys......

I think I've got you beat in most dept.'s Ralph (save for the cameras) 🙂

iPod, iBook, PC, PS2, etc. etc. 😀

Such is the life of the bachelor 😉 But having the MP3 player is very cool once you realize "Hey, this thing doesn't skip!!".

Cheers

I skipped the PS2. I did not like the MCA bus...

Every time my 10 year old Nephew comes over, he wants me to pull out the Atari 400 with Star Raiders. 16K of memory. 1MHertz 6502 processor.

He has the Nintendo, MBox, Playstation 2, etc...

I'm convinced that quality of gameplay is inversely proportional to processor speed and amount of memory. The best games I ever remember playing were on my old Commodore 64, which is still in my attic waiting for enough space to come out again! I feel no need for a PlayBox360Boy.

IIRC, NASA sent messrs Armstrong and Aldrin to the moon using a pair of 16K processors...

Last time i tryed a game (over 2 years ago) was Flight Simulator that i borrowed from a friend. But, when i realised that i would need 2 screens, twice the CPU and RAM and a XPTZ Joystick to play it right, i gave up 😀

Heheheh, how about this: Ipod broke 5 months ago for no reason (dead HD, would cost more than a new one to fix) at the same time as my external HD, powerbook had to be formatted for still unknown reasons 2 months ago, PS2 died last year as well, TV crapped out a little later... Hope 2006 turns out better 😡

I had a PS2 but sold it because I never got on well with the modern games. I'm old enough to have had my youth wasted in chip shops with Space Invaders, Glaxian, Donkey Kong, Pac Man and Defender and once I discovered MAME (www.mame.net) I realised I didn't need all the fancy graphics of the modern consoles - the gameplay was just as good with the oldies! With MAME I am playing the exact games that were played at the arcade. With my (suspect) woodworking and electronic skills I've even built myself a proper arcade console to play them on. It's like I'm 13 again except I don't have to keep forking over 10p per play!

Hey Rover, if you're on Windows or Mac be sure to check out Apple's iTunes software. Handles both ripping and downloading legal songs better than anything else I've tried.

As for computers, well, been playing with them since '77 and can claim more types than I care to think about some days.

I got an ipod shuffle for Christmas. I loaded albums (from CDs) by: Led Zepalin, Paul Simon, Eric Clapton, U2, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Blue Rodeo, and Susan Latimer (local artist). I want to get some Tragically Hip in there too.

my 20 gig iPod has about 3600 songs.. and lately I've been loading audiobooks to listen to during my long 8 minute commute

but I want to upgrade to the new 60 gig Video iPod.. you can download complete movies onto those.. along with all your photos

" Crosby Stills Nash and Young " I thought they were a Toronto Law Firm

Listen to 4 way street sometime then 😉 By the way Graham Nash is a photographer too.

Ahh...before iPod there was Archos. And the original Napster.

I ripped dozens of my CDs before going on my first trip to Paris...ahh. Did it help at night! In the plane, in ze train. Nothing like tunes on a long train ride.

8 minute commute! I HATE YOU 😀 (kidding) I live 13 miles from work and it takes me 45-90 minutes each way. For that I got me a car stereo with sat hookup/mp3 cd player and an ipod connector. My ipod now lives in the glove box. It's really nice but i never remeber to take it out when i want to listen to it elsewhere.

I know what you mean regarding the teenager comment. I got a video iPod for Christmas, and my kids were teasing me about being an old guy and having one. I loaded a bunch of my music on it, as well as, some of my images (very cool). Now I'm into podcasts (very, very cool), and have even downloaded a few music videos and t.v. shows. The kids don't tease me anymore, because they realize how much this old guy is doing with his iPod. I'll really wow them when I can figure out how to tranport megasized files on it. I hope I haven't made it 'un-cool" for them. 😛
