I did not, though I certainly would have been within my rights to do so. I also didn't respond with violence, which is also a bit unlike me when assaulted. But I was more shocked (and actually, embarrassed) and hurried off, looking for something to wipe my face with. Sounds stupid now, I know.
I'm quite the fanatic - a real lunatic fringer - but I try to keep as much of it to myself as I can. It is a tough row to hoe - if you disagree with an extreme leftie, they assume you're an extreme rightie. Same situation the other way around. Trying to explain that you think they're both right about some things, and completely wrong about others doesn't help matters - they're not programmed to deal with that. You're either "fer 'em" or you're "agin 'em." Trying to explain that you don't cling to narrow party lines but choose to make your own mind up is just not acceptable, it seems.
