I wasn't sure where to post this and this is not a major querie but it is something that I have been very curious about lately.

The photography in the inserts for LCBO that have been coming every couple of weeks in the Globe and Mail are incredible. I know this is probably blasphemous on this forum but I wanted to know how they were able to achieve that in print. Is it in the studio photography, type of camera, the editing phase (i.e., PS), the printing phase, or what? I'm just amazed at the clarity and level of detail in the photographs. I'm sure it's digital but there is also something about the way they are printing those inserts that maintains so much detail and sharpness.

Feel free to flame away, I have no association with the LCBO (besides being a frequent customer 😉), I just was very curious about those brochures.

Large format. 8X10. 5X7. 4X5. I'm not sure how digital has affected this type of product photography, but those are the formats I used until closing my studio four years ago. I had one client who referred to 4X5 as "small format"! The detail and gradation are also enhanced by printing quality, especially the use of heavy, coated paper.

For real? I'm not doubting you by any means, I'm so new to this photography thing you could probably say anything and I'd believe it! It's just they look really digital to me. I'm simply amazed at the clarity and detail especially in print.
