My main source of information, besides internet, is the radio, and I own a (large) Toshiba receiver from the 1980's. Luckily we can receive RFI (Radio France International) in FM in Prague, but otherwise, I could also check with MW or LW

I was thinking of getting one of these - but the FM transmitters are being turned off in a few years. Just DAB after that (boo).

Strange what we like (I've never liked a Bose anything), but I once had a Bogen receiver (valve/stereo), RP-30 or some such. Great sound. I once recorded a Met performance of Carmen off air on that thing, and the cassette is great. It was an NPR broadcast, of course.
I think I got it with a BIN of $125 a few years back. It has that "line in" jack that the old KLH's lack. They come up once in awhile. I was waiting.
I need more tubes. I have the KLH Model Eight in my sights now (well, long-range sights...) Also, ipod+iTrip transmitter=a real boon for your old FM tube radios that lack a line in. My Grundig 5040 still rocks the house quite often.

I have a Henry Kloss-designed Cambridge Soundworks Model 88.
It's a good sounding stereo table radio with remote.
Interestingly the remote is the same one used for the Bose Wave Radio;
I bring it along to make mischief at Wave owner's homes.
For clock radios, nothing beats my old Proton 320.
The more recent Sangean Q Radio sounds very good, too.
I love radio, especially NPR. Despite tacking further to the
right since Bush got in, if there were no NPR I probably
wouldn't own a radio (except during baseball season!)...

The thing I like about high-quality tabletop radios is that one high fidelity monaural channel is better than a stereo pair of mediocre quality. And for the kind of music one commonly hears broadcast, a stereo image is not mandatory to enjoy the listening experience. In fact, with a high fidelity monaural channel I can hear song lyrics better than with a muddy quality stereo.

I recently got a Boston Acoustics Duo-i, essentially a top-notch table radio (stereo) with an iPod dock and clock radio functionality, but without the festival of buttons and dials that too often come for the ride with these things–a lot closer to the old KLH table radio.
Beats the hell out of cheap n' nasty noisemakers. Tend to last a bit longer, too.
I looked into several HD radios, but all of them had at least a few things that bothered me enough to pass them over. HD is nice, especially when combined with tagging, but not a major must-have for me. (Never mind my previous post here.)
