Not really expecting to win, I put a bid on a Nikon FM3HP with MD-4 motor drive last night. To my amazement, I won it. Now I have a parallel line of GAS ... anyone out there have a good condition AI or AIS 50mm for sale?

SLR's are good, too! 😀

I just bought a couple of FM3a's so been on the look out myself... KeH in the US has a pretty good line in used Nikkor lens - I've got a 50/1.8 AI winging it's way over from there.
Ffordes too have a fair selection.

My oldest F3 is from 1983, and is going strong. It is an F3AF, autofocus, but I use it as a regular F3HP.

F3's can also be used with Non-AI lenses, in stop-down metering mode. A LOT of non-AI lenses go cheap.

Don't be afraid, Joe. I have some really nice OM gear that I'll be putting up for sale to fund my new SLR direction. The OM stuff is lovely, but I've been using it for 30 yrs and, as you say, am looking for a change of pace.

I have one OM-1 left, and it's currently being overhauled with CLA, new focusing screen, and meter upgrade to modern batteries. It's black. And some very nice Zuikos to go with it 😀

Ah, F3hp with MD-4. I've had one for years and loved it dearly. Just a wonderful camera. But since I got my RF camera, it has been unused. 🙁 They say that no-one has quite the passion of a convert...

How true. It's like the traveller's axim: no matter where you travel to, you ALWAYS meet someone coming the other way...

I suppose many of these fine cameras are being abadoned in the flight to digital. Hard to believe picking up a combo like this for $280 US ... each of my RF lenses cost me more than that!

I may not get a 35 for the Nikon. Based on my many years using OM gear, I'm looking at building a base kit of 24, 50, 105. Pure coincidence that a 24 got posted today??

I like your choice in lenses for the camera. Not having used a 24mm I'll probably go with a 28 for my new-to-me FM and maybe a faster 50.

So if being a Nikon owner puts me on the dark side and a digtal camera also puts me on the dark side, I think I want a red lightsaber to complete the outfit...

Gene, that is wondeful and I am excited about seeing some of your work with it. I felt the same way when I got the F1n at such a rediculous price. The guy sold it to buy one of those pro/sumer digixcams. What a putz. Turned out to be a lake Placid commemmorative. I had it CLA'd and just turned down a nice profit for it.

There must be an epidemic afoot, something like Nikon flu? You, Dave and I are all suddenly afflicted with the desire to buy Nikon gear!

Given this is RFF, it must be pandemic...

If I'm going out with more than one lens, I usually take the 20, 50, 105 or 135 combo. But if I'm heading out with a single lens on the SLR it's the 35-O.

Sounds good, Peter. I don't expect I'll end up with a list like Brian's but over time I expect (all right I KNOW) I'll expand past my 24-50-105 plan. 😀

Thanks jja. I'll do some window shopping.
