My opinion is that the new Z lenses have nasty bokeh. Not beautiful at all. They're sharp as razors, but come in behind a large collection of other makers for bokeh quality.

funny...i think it's just about as good as it can get (the new ZM lenses in general).
The referenced photo, kabukicho, shows sharp-edged round disks for OOF light sources, indicating pretty neutral well-corrected spherical abberation. Maybe very faintly brighter at the rim. That may be good, generally, but not for the most pleasant bokeh.

Well, the photo was taken at night, probably at f/1.4. There is some motion blur in the subject and probably some vibration from the mirror in the F3. Since the shape of the iris has a lot to do with bokeh, I'd like to see some photos taken at f/4 or f/8.

Good point, RH. Big difference between bokeh at f/1.4 & stopped down.
