Whoa jan, I'm going to have to disagree here. If anything Rogue should do more photography now and the first year, and set the expectation early on. That is, a low expectation for 'together time'. Then there won't be any disappointment, and when he does cut back to his normal level, he'll be seen as a saint.:angel:

A bit cynical, but hey, marriage will do it to ya!😉

Congratulations rd! I wish you and your fiance a long and happy life together. I have been married for over two decades and still think it is the best thing I've ever done. As for all the stated concerns by others about your fiance and future wife affecting your ability to enjoy photography and acquire additional camera gear, all I can say is that one of the keys to a happy and successful long term relationship is recognizing what is truly important to your partner and finding a way to support it. To do anything else is to be at odds with each other which is the beginning of the end of a committed relationship because you are no longer working together and, instead, are two individuals each trying to maximize their own position. Sorry to get so heavy but the message is actually a positive one in that if photography is truly important to you then she should support it deeply rather than fight you over it.

Even speaking as someone who regards himself as being retired hurt from the romance game (a term from cricket that's an apt an analogy to my current circumstance*) I find that horribly pessimistic! Don't listen to the nay-sayers. You and yours go on to a wonderful life together.

Now, just as you'll show her how your cameras work, do something she likes (like attending concerts, cooking, or anything she may have as a hobby).

Heh - luckily I have two excuses, one the photography is a growing part of my income. Two... she's a photographer as well. 😀

My parents are about to hit their 50th anniv. And I have many many relatives who have long marriages so to me marriage is for life and I dont share the same skepticism as many here seem to. I waited until I was 40 years old to find the right one and it was worth the wait!

Congrats! Twenty years and two recent kids later, I and mine are still a team. She's never asked me how much my gear habit costs - god love her. She, like I am, is a dilettante photographer and has her own thing - she is more utilitarian in her worldview than I and only deals with digital these days. Best of luck you two - go out and make it work.
