Ouch! Cut myself on the M8 sharpness! (samples)

Ok, I took the M8 to Ridley Creek, a local park I frequent. I took my tiny Velbon tripod and a cable release, and took a few pictures at sunrise.

Holy cow! I've not seen a camera with this kind of clarity yet. Now I understand why people are holding onto it despite the issues they are running into.

Here are a few samples:

Do you have dust on the sensor? It seems there are a number of black spots that look like dust. I wonder if that will be difficult to remove.

you have to be so very very careful removing dust from your sensor!!!! I have been seen one too many dslr's that have been ruined because the person thought they could use a paintbrush or a q tip to takes the dust off. NO!

You need one of these http://luminous-landscape.com/reviews/visible-dust.shtml I got one, the 30 something dollar small SB8 sensor brush one from visible dust for cleaning my 20D's sensor, and it has saved me a hell of a lot of problems and grief. I highly recommend taking a look through the companies website at all the different ways to use the brush. I simply give it a good 10-15 second blowing with my air bulb then a single stroke, blow again stroke, until ive gone over the entire sensor.

btw, those are some really nice looking pics 😉

Guys,

Thanks for the kind words. I have the Visible Dust sensor brush, but I'm afraid to use it yet--I have had DSLRs forever, and when I cleaned my 5D I got streaks on it (that was using Eclipse and the sensor swab) so I've been afraid to clean it off. Never had that problem with the 20D or the 10D etc...

I'll probably just use a blower brush for now and then the Visible Dust brush, but again, paranoid. I'll wait until someone else reports that they've cleaned it successfully... Yes, I AM a coward. 😉

On another note, I can't believe just how efficient I was shooting with the camera. It is so quick to work with compared to using a DSLR or even the R-D1. Very responsive, featherweight, and the RF focusing did snap into place. With the R-D1, I had similar feelings, but man, those M8 images.

Great stuff Ken- do you get pictures this sharp or color with this depth from your 5D? I'll bet when you figure out how to make prints with your M8 you'll find another "layer" of color and sharpness in those images. I can't wait for you to share your results and findings.

Hey, I used to live there! I rented the caretaker's cottage at Tyca Farm on Gradyville Rd (northwest corner of Springton reservoir) about 10 years ago. So beautiful and unspoiled. Andrew Wyeth used to paint back there on occasion, for good reason. 🙂 Great pictures Ken, please post more, I miss it there.

So, you could rent that place? Wow! That would have been a neat place to live.

I haven't spent the time printing yet (young baby and small kids == 100% capture mode, 5% printing at some point). I can't wait, as I'm sure I'll be blown away. This is really making me consider getting a Gretag MacBeth color checker and a spyder for my monitor so that my colors are calibrated to something.

I am sure they worked hard to optimise the design with available sensors and technology. There are some compromises as with any product. Use it and enjoy.

Thanks for showing and the coment on the 15mm which is not coded. Ummm.
