I believe I have inadvertently learned that the Jupiter-12 comes in two different lens mounts: the one I have and the one I need.

I *thought* it was the right mount when I purchased it (from eBay), but on the bottom of the case it says "KNEB" and I have a Zorki. I can assume that this thing's useless to me now, because I can't figure out how this thing would ever mount on the camera.

*sigh* life briefly sucks.

LOL.. yeah.. that might be the cheapest way to remedy the problem

on the other hand, you could find a Contax/Kiev to Leica adapter.. I've seen a few non-rangefinder coupled models for only $195

It's tempting, but the last thing I want in my life is camera clutter (of all things). I used the same camera for 16 years, and only this summer did I go for a Zorki. To get a Kiev just seems a bit wasteful (unless someone can convince me what advantage a Kiev would have - try me, I'm new here). With no better options I may just sell this baby (the J12).

Sent you a PM. I traded away my last J12 with the Kiev 4am and Helios lens, for an external finder with Gene. Since then I've traded another RF camera for another Kiev 4a with J8. I could now use a J12 again. (Unfortunately it won't fit my Contax IIa!)

In case you don't bite at Frank's offer, get the Kiev (I have 3). It's in a whole different class from the Zorki's & Fed's. The extra long RF base also helps with focusing lenses like the J3 & J9... it's also a lot easier and cheaper to find a J3 and/or J9 for the Kiev than LTM.

Can't you return it to the seller for a replacement in LTM? It may be difficult to find a Contax-->LTM adapter, plus I don't think any of those had RF coupling. There is one for M-mount though.

If not, buy a Kiev. It is superior in its longer RF base, and that it is so dfficult to knock it out of alignment. But if you use your cameras for 19 years, be prepared to give it 2 CLAs. 1 for the time when you get the camera, and 1 when the shutter ribbon unavoidably snaps.

People like us, passionate about photography, are not world renowned for being rational folks. Any of our non-photography friends/relatives/spouses will attest to that.

(The Kiev that I will be receiving soon will probably be sent to Oleg for a cla.)

I routinely have camera gear CLA'd at more cost than I paid for the item... afterwards, it's worth more... and (more importantly) working perfectly. :D

Hear! Hear! I'l second that. I think I only have 6 more CLA's to go for this year.

Eek, I've done that before. I broke even when I sold it to the guy who was just $0.75 below my last bid! It was the exact same scenario too! I was really looking forward to put on the Jupiter12's onto my Zorki 4, but then I took a look and there were no threads! Hope you guyses deals went well.

do people CLA Kievs? that would be like taking your toaster to a repair shop

Brett,
I found this website for a DIY Contax II CLA. I assume the Kiev CLA process would be the same. http://www.host.fptoday.com/melek/zeiss/repair/start.html
Both my Kievs have meters. If anyone would like to donate a dead Kiev "flat top" to science, I'd be happy to perfom an autopsy.

Is it silver or black and how much do you want for it?

I feel your pain. Some time ago I "inadvertently learned" that there are two, count 'em, two M39 thread mounts... the one I bought [that fits a Zenit] and the one I needed [to fit a Zorki]. I realized the error of my ways even before the soon-to-be-paperweight arrived.

Once in hand, I was pleasantly surprised that it fit right on the Zorki. But when the pics came back ......... Jeepers!! ...... they looked like I had shot the whole roll mis-focusing down the barrel of a 12 gauge shotgun. I finally lost half my shirt trading it for an I~22... which I now love.

Yeah, take the offers and sell/trade the J12 to one of the Kiev addicts... err ... users ... uhh ... collectors of fine photographic instruments here at RFF. A half a shirt looks good with a Zorki.

Actually, there are 3 M39-mounts - the two you mentioned, and those of of the Braun Paxette rangefinders (not interchangeable with Leica-M39....)

Thank you for adding to my paranoia... ha! There's another "paperweight" I have to worry about.

Before the misfit M39 arrived, I read several horror stories about Zenit M39 lenses totally trashing the threads of Leica bodies. Mine actually fit on the Zorki quite freely and seated nicely. Alas, a moot point in light of the nowhere near focusing issue.
