Couldn't stop til I finished the series of 248 photos!! Love how you included your wife in many of them. The shots of you guys in the car was hilarious. My wife drives too!

Here is an 'edited' version of the trip. There are 90 shots total. Still a couple of shots of my wife in there, but they don't seem to be overly 'personal'.

A thoroughly enjoyable series… I agree with other comments - these images are far more than simply “tourist shots”. Like gb_hill, I had to view the entire series!
In particular, you really managed to capture the atmosphere of Oradour-sur-Glane. I wish that I had managed to achieve such good results when we visited Oradour a few years ago.
Thanks for sharing these with us.

i enjoyed both sets, vince. thanks for sharing.
as others have said, great feel to the images, individually and in series. talent doesn't turn itself off on holiday, after all.

Wow, thanks for all the comments. Truly honoured!
Admittedly, a couple of the shots did surprise me -- particularly the one of the guys boxing in Blois, and the woman with the long dark hair white jacket (and oh yes - those legs) in Notre Dame Cathedral in Reims. I think it was a combination of the moment, the setting, and the people in the scenes that made those two shots come together...but really, anyone could have done those shots -- I just happened to be there at those particular times.

Think I've narrowed down my top 10 from this series (ones that aren't overtly personal, that is). Let me know what you think....
I am 'iffy' about two of them -- the vertical shot with the statues, and the horizontal shot in the colosseum. Hmmm, maybe the shot of the Citroen car in Oradour too. This may be a bit tougher than I thought!

beautiful series, I'll go back to your full serie (just gave a quick look). That citroen traction avant is something typical of French (ok, old times) which I think should be in your selection (a little more contrast perhaps).

Hope to do as well as you.
Hope to do as well as you.
Going to Eastern and Central Europe next May and I hope I can get some photos half as good as these. I'm looking at your pictures every day just to stay inspired and will try, we'll see what happens. Thanks again.

I just got an email today from the New York Times travel editor, and they are going to run the shot of the woman in Notre Dame Cathedral in Reims in the 'Why We Travel' portion of the Sunday travel section!
Should be hopefully running on the 30th or the 6th, but he said he'd let me know when it's running for sure.

I enjoyed the series. Only a few seemed touristy to me, and those were much better than the average tourist snap. The first map reading photo made me chuckle.
I liked the interiors of the restaurants and church(s) a lot. Especially the juxtaposition of the woman with the nice legs in the church.

Lovely work Vince - thank you for sharing it with us!
Beautiful B&W too - amongst the best I have seen from digital.
I would find a place for "France 170" (the cat on the cart, with the tree on the right) amongst your selects. Lucky to have a cooperative cat, but you also managed an excellent composition!
