Well-known

Most mornings on the bus to the train station, this Indian gentleman sits across from me, meditating. His mudra or hand position, with thumbs touching index fingers, represents gyan - the mudra of knowledge. Often I join him, and with so few travelers at that hour, it’s a welcome notion that half the bus is engaged in meditation and the quest for inner enrichment.
Recently I took a seat on the morning train next to a young man who appeared to be in meditation. When he opened his eyes, I told him I sat there because he looked like he was meditating. He said, “Yeah, I love taking the train because I can get a half-hour in before work.” We sat together, both focused within, for the rest of the trip. Despite all the chaos swirling around us these days, the world is indeed changing.
