Last of the all mechanical OMs with an impressive spot meter.
A OM-1n would also be a good choice ( and a lot cheaper )

I'm sure you will see a lot of fantastic, expensive and luxurious combos. I will recommend the cheapest combo among all the replies:
Olympus OM-2000 + Miranda 24mm f/2.8. Both made by Cosina.
+: Cheap, lightweight, next-generation spot metering, 1/2000s shutter speed, 1/125s flash sync, all mechanical shutter, shutter lock, bright and clean viewfinder, aperture/mirror pre-fire with self-timer, can use all OM mount lenses, etc.
-: Cheap.
The combo would cost under 100$ and no need of CLA. Purchase film with the money saved.

Always been a fan of the 24/2.8 Nikkor with CRC. Plentiful and cheap, and a zillion body options.

Well, this must be a contender:
Minolta X700 with Minolta MD/MC 24/2.8
- The X700 was a electronic marvel, but easy to use and intuitive for a low price. If you want something more classic, I would go XE or SRT.
- The Minolta 24/2.8 is supposed to be the same lens as the Leica R 24/2.8 - even if this isn't true, it still is a great lens.
But I expect everybody will mention his favorite brand.

but still open to all suggestions.

If not the primary camera, please consider pinhole.
I recently bought one from Freestyle and the camera takes medium format film.
You can choose, size of film and how it's made such as materials that varies price.
Fun with my photography again!

Nikon FM2n and 24mm f2.8 Nikkor.
Agree either the FM2 or FM2n. Nothing wrong with the FM either. If you want auto exposure too the FE or FE2.
There were 3 versions of the 24 f2.8. The non AI, the AI and AIs were all different formulas. The AIs is the best of the pack but none are bad.
If you want the most rugged body the F2 is the way to go.

Is AE a requirement?
Is a built in meter a requirement?
Can't go wrong with Nikon: F, F2, F3, FE/FE2, FM/FM3, Nikkormats Ftn, Ft2, Ft3
