I just bought a ton of darkroom equipment and alot of film came with it. Most is black and white loaded from a bulk loader and not dated. There are two rolls of Tmax not opened and dated 2001 and 2006. Is it worth using or should I just toss it. I haven't done BW developing for 30 yrs. and I'm worried that if the film is bad I won't know if any bad results are from me or the film.

I think it depends ... .

It depends on the speed of the film and how it was stored.

I probably wouldn't use it for "mission critical" (remember that idiotic term?) stuff, but perhaps it might be good for shooting for fun.

If you havn't developed for 30 years, don't let the OOD film be your first experience in this new millenium 🙂 Start with some fresh stuff, all the same and learn from your mistakes - otherwise you'll now know what was you and what was the film.

The expired stuff can come later (it's waited enough years already).

Mike, have you seen the recent threads on the 75 year rolls of film that were just recently developed? Now THAT's outdated film! 😀

Shoot it at a lower ISO than box speed, and you could probably pull some good images from it. Doing so may avoid fogging.

Hey Guys...if you're talking about the rolls of film that Keith has been showing us that film was developed years ago and has been in storage...Keith is scanning the rolls to show us...I don't want to take anything away from Keith but a bunch of posters have stated that he just developed these rolls...wrong...reread the original post and you'll see what I'm talking about...😀

Thanks for the help and advice. I have some new film that I think I'll develope first until I get some good negatives and if I still have the nack, I'll do some of the old stuff and compare. It's still sealed in the boxes; 100 foot rolls; 100 ASA and I was thinking of exposing it at 64. I'm going to enjoy this.
