Out of options?

The focus shift and 1m MFD of my Nokton 1.1 is really killing me, so I was looking to drop it off for another 50 with .7m mfd. I have now ended up realizing that the only fast 50s who can focus that close (rules out Nokton 1.5, Canon 1.5 and older Summilux), without shifting (rules out Sonnar), is the two most recent Summilux lenses, but even the pre-asph costs at least twice as much as the Nokton.
The Nikkor 1.4 focuses closer, but isn't coupled beyond 1m, which I think would be a problem wide open.

Are those two my only option, or is there any way to get a lens like that for less money?

The Nokton 1.5 can be hacked to focus down to 0.7m.
Allowing the nikkor to focus down to 0.7m is easy. all you need is filing the mount a bit, allowing the cam to follow.
It is a Sonnar though..
I too wonder why we don't see a ZM Planar 1.4 or a VC Nokton 1.5 revamped in M mount with 0.7m focus.

As Sanmich said the Nikkor goes down to 0.7, it's from 0.7 to 0.55-ish that you lost focus. Need a dremel though the mount is a bitch to hand file neatly.

I'd really like to avoid hacking if possible.

It does, but it's optimized for close-up so depends on what you shoot might or might not be a problem.

Only in so far as most other lenses do, much less than a Sonnar. Comparable to (or even less than) the pre-asph Summilux, for instance. Much better than the Summilux in the distortion department. A great option, IMO.

If you would be into DIY, I would recommend a Pentax lens 🙂
