Shutter Speed dial orientation - old school or modern?
Shutter Speed dial orientation - old school or modern?
Hmm, considering that the M6, M6TTL, M7 and M8 all have the SAME shutter speed control orientation, I'm thinking that the answer will be not a chance ....
Shutter Speed dial orientation - old school or modern?
After a month with my used MP, I did decide to buy a demo M8.
My only question is, if I get the shutter upgrade at some time, can I tell them to have the shutter speed control turn in the SAME way as my MP?
I freaked out when I saw that it was different on the M8... :-( As usual I should have informed myself better before I purchased.

Not the M6 (it turns the old way - like the M3/2/4/P).
However, I would agree... not a chance!

In order to keep the firmware the same for all cameras the shutter speed encoder pattern/PCB would need to be changed to be mirror image. I think the chance of this being an option is negligible. A menu choice may be theoretically possible but considering the firmware development time for more important options like SDHC I doubt it.After a month with my used MP, I did decide to buy a demo M8.

What I sit here wondering myself - is how much work it would be to turn around an old M - like an M2 or 4... It is some years since I opened an M last - and I cannot remember clearly, but I think it should be fairly easy...

As it turns the same way respective to the arrows in the viewfinder as the aperture ring this is the more ergonomic solution anyway.

Please do, I'd be very interested in knowing directly what they had to say.
This comes as no surprise to me but a Leica customer service representative in Solms responded this morning with the information that there are no fixed prices associated with a M8 repair - each camera sent in would be inspected and an individual cost estimate for that camera calculated.
After reading all of the other posts in this thread, I concur that if and when it becomes reality, it would make economic sense to buy a used M8 with the intention of having the shutter replaced, thereby extending the warranty for the (hopefully) entire camera for another couple of years.

I think you'd have to be prepared for shell-shock if you sent in a kaput M8 for out-of-warranty service.
I have restrained myself from buying a used one, at least for now.

Countless used items routinely sell for well over their actual brand new retail price on eBay, even items not strongly in demand.
I don't even try to analyze the psychology or lack of it.
