I recently needed to send my Sonnar ZM to Zeiss for a loose focus mount. I have to say that Richard Schleuning at Zeiss was outstanding to work with. He answers emails quickly even on weekends, handled the matter professionally and had my lens back to me in less than 10 days!

You really can't go wrong with a company that treats customers this way!

That's because Zeiss uses real human beings who are knowledgable the product and its customers and don't read answers from a sheet of paper.

Plus, they care about the customer and not just the sale.

This applies to Leica, as well, which also enjoys a good reputation for customer attention.

Coincidentally, i just today had a reason to contact Zeiss about fixing the alignment on my Ikon. I also reached Mr. Schleuning, and all preliminary indications give me the sense that i will be similarly pleased by the service. This is a fantastic change from how i was treated by Leica after spending $2500 on a new 50-ASPH....

Odd, there is no "Mr. Schleuning" who works at Zeiss. This man is obviously intercepting emails there.

He's waiting until someone actually sends him something worth more than $25,000.00, and then you'll never hear from him or see him or your item again.

Just after I had received my Ikon, I lost the flash sync cover. That stupid black plastic cap just around the corner from the viewfinder. Anyhow, I emailed Zeiss and they sent me a replacement free via express mail. Nice.

Then a year later my Ikon took a terrible tumble and had to get readjusted. I sent it to Zeiss and they did a great job, very friendly and kept me in the loop. A+ service.

And there is definitely a Richard Schleuning working for Zeiss. He is the national sales manager for their cine lenses in the US:

this is good news. I might touch base with him re three of my lenses which have the wobbles, one which needs attention sooner rather than later. The only thing that tempts me to send them to someone else is that the lube they use is evidently of the sticky variety. I have heard of people with ZM lenses as smooth as silk and without backlash at all after getting the lube replaced. Mine are good, but not as smooth or consistent as my Leicas. I would also like them all (that would mean four) to have the same resistance.
